Re: I had an ambulance ride on Friday!
I will apologise in advance for any incoherent wording as I am sitting in a hospital bed off my head on morphine right this very moment!
The hospital has the best drugs I tell ya!!!!
The operation had some minor hiccups which I knew would happend. (Nothing is ever straight forward with me for some reason!!) Sure enough, the previous operation on my abdomen, has caused too much scar tissue and adhesions, which made it impassable!!!! So he had to open me right up. I know have four scars on my tummy, two little ones, from the kehole and two big ones from the two ops. I am in Western Private room 102 if anyone wants to come keep me company for a little bit. I will be here till at least Friday.

Re: I had an ambulance ride on Friday!
I am home!!!!!
I feel like I've been run over by 17 B doubles, but I'm home!!
After what could only be described as a totally shit day Thursday, including a big chuck (try that after your gut mucles have been cut in half...it's no fun a can assure you!!
) I awoke this morning feeling PFG considering the surgery I'd had. My surgeon came in this morning and said that once the drain was removed I could go home. So I dosed up on a shot of Pethidine and had the nurse remove it. This procedure did not rate highly on my list of things they do to you in hospital. FIrst the nurse had to remove the two staples and the three stitches holding the drain tube inside me and then he pulled it out. That was the worst part! I wished to be unconcious it was so painful!!! There was about 7 inches of tube inside me!!
I've got some wicked painkillers for whenever I need them. I just tested them out and they are PFG!!
I'm trousered!

Re: I had an ambulance ride on Friday!
Well it is nice to be home! The ex dropped my puppies over yesterday so I have some company while I am recouperating. She offered to come over, but I said I'd rather have the puppies!~!! They were really good. I thought that since they hadn't seen me for about 3 weeks, due to work travel and illness, that they might try and jump all over me. But I think they have some idea that I am wounded and have been very gentle. They slept all night in their little day bed for inside the house. I really should put them outside as that's where they sleep normally, but I gave in and let them sleep by my side. Strika snores a bit and Soli let one fart go that stripped some paint off the walls. Other than those two little indescretions they didn't bat an eyelid. To be able to sleep all night without being woken up to have more junk stuck in your veins, taken out of you or do blood pressure, temp and O2 levels was bliss. Timing was the key in hospital. You had to time it so that your sleepy periods were just after the observations were taken! A pretty hard task to manage! But last night I slept when I wanted and was awake when I wanted! As a matter of fact, I took some pain killers at 3.30 and only just woke up!!! That's the longest sleep I've had for a few days, which is just lovely.
I have developed a little cough!
Trust me boys and girls, this is no fun immediately after having an 8 inch slash made in your gut!!! It brings tears to your eyes!!
I manage it by wrapping a pillow around my gut to support the stitching and staples since my muscles can't quite manage it! It feels like the stitches are pulling apart every time. I am sure they are not really pulling out, it' just the feeling it gives!
Things take me a bit of time to accomplish at the moment. Having a shower is an hour long excersise. It takes me a bout 5 minutes to manoeuvre myelf off the bed without causing too much pain. Then about another 5 minutes to sort clothes toiletries etc., Then it takes a good 20-30 minutes to wash myself, and another 20 minutes to get dressed again, with socks being the most difficult item to take off and put back on!
. I have to do everything at dead slow! If I don't the heart rate picks up, then the blood pressure does the same and then the breathing speed increases and then...PAIN!!! So I just have to take it slowly with everything. I am going to go and make my breakky now. Sultana bran with low fat yoghurt, with fresh cut strawbs, watermelon, a banana and a cup of skinny coffee! So life not all bad. Problem is, it take me till lunch time to prepare and eat it!!!
Talking on the phone is a non event, as is any real conversation at the moment, as I am so sore, I can't manage speech and relaxed, pain free breathing at the same time!
I have the TV, Ipod, Laptop and phone all set up within easy reach so communications and entertainment is catered for. All I need is a butler and a chef and I'm set!

Re: I had an ambulance ride on Friday!
yeah Marty...you were lucky (and I never mentioned it before coz you would have run)Strika wrote: My surgeon came in this morning and said that once the drain was removed I could go home. I had TWO drains...and about 10" of garden hose (green surgical tubing...hence garden hose)
and no ether, no pethidine, no nuffing, they unzip (cut the stitches) the tube ...and pull
well phark me...it was worse than the pain from the stones

all is good now ... 'cept for the 2 20c sized scars in the lower gut area
just adds to the aura of the 30cm slash across the stomach

aah..I see you are on the 'special' diet ...coz you need to do it foreverSo I just have to take it slowly with everything. I am going to go and make my breakky now. mind you that not too bad coz if you do...beer wine dairy cheese bread steak..are all permitted
anyway mate
good to see you on the mend (guess we should compare scars one day

week or 2 and you will be back on the bike
cheers
Smitty
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!

Been a tough 24 hours. I think some complications are arising???
got some pretty heavy pain which feels like a twisty inside bit, so might be back to the horsepiddle if it doesn't settle soon.
2008 rates as the worst one I can remember that's for sure!!!!

Oh shoot . . . . I just caught this thread. I'm really sorry to hear that you're in pain and not well Marty.
I hope things in your world pick up, big time. Be good to yourself and get well soon - and back on 2wheels again hey! !
