evolution of a postie

Here's an idea. We've all got spare bits lying around that we'll probably never use. Whatever we've got that we don't want any more lets whack it up here and see if it can be used on the postie project.

I'll go through the garage this weekend and see what I've got

Somehow I missed this post Glen.
If anyone has anything that would fit I'd definitely be interested.
A couple of people have mentioned via PM that they may have some things around.
If we're not sure it will fit, then you measure and I'll measure, and we'll see

Where would I put the clip-ons? Wattie wanted them too.

Clip-ons would go on the top of the forks.

Spoke to Gunna yesterday about that 150cc/5spd combo - going to try to do a drive-by on the weekend to get their number to call and talk.
Replacing the engine, while comparatively cheap compared to other bikes, could add up to too much pretty quick - engine, plus sprocket/chain, plus gear level/cable, plus zorst.
We'll see - but it is attractive.

I reckon the clip-ons look awesome and would seriously change the handling dynamics for the better I think (getting your weight lower and further forward). Do it!

Well - I tried to do a bit more today, tried fitting the podfilter.
Very disappointed as it basically failed - got it fitted all right, but the postie ran like a dog.
I had to put the original airbox system back on

Here's the details of the day's efforts anyway...

It was on the bike when I got it.

This is the original intake system (airbox) that I was ultimately trying to get rid of...


This is the carb-end of that (after removing the centre frame plastic) where the pod-filter will go...


And just for reference for anyone else interested, this pic highlights where the mounts for the airbox are...

Now for the interesting shots.
Fitting the pod was, of course, just a simple matter of slipping it on once I'd gotten the orginal system out of the way.
Here's a shot of the airbox area with the pod fitted...


A full bike shot (haven't fitted the centre frame plastic back on yet)...

Just for fun I thought I'd see what the bike looked like without the rack too.
It won't be going rackless (at least yet) as it's too useful...



I like the look with the pod, and I think I like the look without the plastic and rack too. But the plastic hides the wiring and the rack's useful.

As I said though the bike ran crap with the new filter, so it's all back to original (see http://s170.photobucket.com/albums/u250 ... before.jpg)
I guess it needs to be rejetted.
Anyone know for sure? I'm still ignorant of these things, but it makes some sense.
I guess I'm finally going to have to learn how to work on a carby. I know everyone says they're easy, but like most things can be a little daunting until you try. So the pod's on the shelf for some other day.

Very disappointed.
Though it was louder with the pod, which may not be the best thing for a 6am start with a sleeping bub.

The observant may also note that the rego label's now in a rego tube
The next update probably won't be for another month or so.

A response on the postie bikes group confirms I need a new main jet - probably 1 or 2 sizes bigger.
