120kph on 100 zone WILL lose your license in vic!

Question: how fast would you need, to get into the tv news ? (I've been hearing 170kph and 180kph on 100 zone).

Looks like you're right.

I used to study these rules when converting my license and I remember at 100k and above the calculation was bit different. Maybe they changed.

This means 124kph is the most affordable speed, which is around 130kph on the indicator. That's okay I guess. Unfortunately the most comfortable cruising speed on a 6R is 140-150kph.

Gos reckons "Its all a load of frogshit"
Well here is the shit from the frog

Speeding - breaking a limit imposed by a group based on the lowest common denominator (90yo in a 60s Corolla with bald tyres and no brakes that got here licence before WW2).
Going to fast for conditions - You are a wanker and a TRUE tremporary Ozzie.

In short speeding is getting CAUGHT

I speed a lot (not in the city, certainly not pedestrian areas) but I try NEVER to go too fast.... The sparky photo would have been at "legal" speeds....
How a series 1 Landrover can do the same speeds as my bike and be as safe... well its obviously impossible (yes I know about reaction times).

And it is dangerous (ie bloody boring and puts you to sleep) to sit on 100k, at 140 I am alert and am only using my handlebars to STEER not hold myself up with locked elbows..... :D

Speed doesnt kill, running into immovable roadside objects does.

And the comment about trackdays is right, you can do 200k all day at a track and feel safe and then go outside and do 60 on the way home in traffic and be terrorfied.......
Just because you CAN ride, doesn't mean you SHOULD

Nah, I dont speed....on the bike or in the car. Maybe 10 over the limit occasionally. I need my licence, thankyou. The BF usually does 15-20km over, although accidentally admitted to 140 over Bell's while riding with his dad.
I used to have a handle on Life,

Speed is relative, but that is difficult to regulate (turn into revenue) so we get these bullshit limits.

Which is more dangerous?
1) 130kph in a 100kph limit
2) 80kph in a 50kph zone?

Both carry the same fines and points, but one is far more dangerous than the other.

Speeding on a very busy freeways is far more dangerous than the same on an empty one, but the fine would be the same.

I speed, each and every day. I cruise at an indicated 120 on the freeways (am never on them at peak hour), and generally 5 over everywhere else. I do like to hoom freeway on/off ramps, and have been known to take these at 100mph

Don't talk to me about speeding , relative velocity , riding to suit the conditions or points . Just don't have any interest in them at all

OK. Let's take a recent TAC add campaign here in VIC.
Guy driving at 65kph. Girl steps out. He slams the breaks, skids and hits the girl at 30 kph, killing her.
Then, they replay with him only doing 60kph, hit hits her at 5kph and she has a bruised leg.
Now what if the posted speed limit was 70kph?
He would have been travelling at a safe and legal speed, doing nothing wrong. suddenly it was the girl's fault for stepping out right?
Wrong, it was the girl's fault for stepping out whether the limit was 40, 50, 60, 70 or 80. nothing changes, just a sign on the side of the road.

let's look at it from a biker's point of view.
one week, you ride through king lake and the posted limit is 100.
you take a particular corne at 90kph, get distracted by soccer mum marking lines make a mistake and lose the front. it's ok it was only an accident TAC cover your bills. everyone's happy.

However,
the speed limit is dropped to 80 as a result of your accident.
3 months later you encounter the same corner, again at 90 kph and hit a bit of diesel on the road and lose the front end.

The difference between these two accidents is on the first, rider error would go dpwn on the stats sheet for the accident, but in the second, speed would be the determined cause, even though nothing has changed except a sign on the side of the road.

i think i probably speed  ive had a 575 dollar fine so i dont speed in any built up areas.. imo pick your spots .. i dont understand why people insist on sitting on like 140 on the highway, most ill sit on is 120 .. cause i dont wanna go through the massive fine and loss of licence biz.. nearly been there and its not a good feeling...

just let em go, its their licence they are losing not yours :)

I've just got a new bike 2006 ZX6 (had it 3 months) took it out to top it out and did 269 (for about 3 seconds, way outta town) ... this is bad but I have not been booked since 1989 and that was speeding on a GPZ250 in Darwin. Since then I generally stick to the limit in town and try not to get hit by them 4 wheelers ... After topping out the 6 later that day I was pulled over by Plod for a license check his mate had the Laser Gun out though and I was following the letter of the law.
