Re: 78 Z1R project....
G'day Dave,
You say that you did the pinstripes - I have a set of these for mine and was wondering if there were any tricks, dos, don'ts with applying these to the bodywork?
For example does the adhesive in the transfers require any "activation" or is it just a matter of peeling off the backing and applying them?
I assume that you applied some clear lacquer over the strips (and the rest of the paintwork...?) Is this a special clear or....?
I'm gunna have a go at doing as much of the work as I can, prepping the bits - repairing, rubbing, filling and undercoating before the topcoat, transfers and clear.
Any hints would be much appreciated as I'm trying to get this bloke on the road soon and I don't have a lot of $Aust to splash on a painter.

Re: 78 Z1R project....
Do you have a have a decal kit slimey ???
I used 2mm "separate" pinstripes of a roll and did mine by hand.
My painter painted the bits and cleared them.
He then lightly scuffed the clear back so I could apply the stripes.
When they were on he cleared over the top...

Re: 78 Z1R project....
Yeah Dave, I've got a decal kit - they're around in Oz from Z1Spares - mine came with the basket case - hope that they aren't too old or dried out.
How much of the prep work did you do on your bits?
My fairing needs a bit of f'glass filling/sanding but the sidecovers, seat strips and tailpiece
(after I glued it back together again) are ok and just need to be smootheed back for the undercoat.
The tank and front guard will get the blast treatment then prime before undercoat.
Just for comparison - what sort of $ did your painter charge you? (PM me if that's a sensitive point)

Re: 78 Z1R project....
Anyone else had any experience with application of decal sets for a Zed (or similar)?
Just want to confirm if the adhesive requires activation or if it's just a matter of "peel and stick."
Might be bold and have a play with the decals I've got - will post some feedback in case anyone else is interested.

Re: 78 Z1R project....
Pretty sure you just spray water with a touch of dish washing liquid one the parts and on the decals.
This gives you the chance to move them into position them squeegee out any air bubbles with a credit card or similar.
This is the processes I used on the triple decals.
My painter did all the prep work...One thing I wont touch.
Tank and front guard were sand blasted.
If I told you what it cost me you'd die of shock
OK...300 bucks.
He is a good mate.

He must be - for that price!
Thanks for the info - pretty much the same process that I used with my tacho and speedo dial "decals" which were also thin vinyl film - from "Reproductiondecals" via Diablo Cycle.

Re: 78 Z1R project....
Inspiring stuff. I don't mind the coffin-tank Zeds, a mate had a Mk1 Z1R.
Re: 78 Z1R project....
Think I had a bit of trouble with the pics....
Hopefully this has worked!
