Yep, it's normal... The rubber heats up, and the bitumen chews it up whilst it's soft.
Just watch that the tyres are ok on the road now. I have found at times that tyres used on a track day can go off a bit. After you wear off all the chewed up bits, the tyres often become hard and slippery.
I found that out whilst braking hard into a tight right hander a week or so after a track day.
