Jumping from a 250 to a 9 is a much risker step than jumping from a 250 to a 6.

I partly disagree with that...

I went from a zzr250 to a yzf600r to a zx9r and out of the bunch, the 9 has the most relaxed power delivery... easier to ride a low revs where the 6 lacks a bit of bottom end torque. I admit it is a bit heavier, which could be a shock to a 250 rider, but all-in-all the yzf and zx9r are fairly similar bikes to ride.

It all depends on the rider anyway

Having never ridden a 6 or a 9, I can definitely say the 7 is the best.

They don't feel as heavy as some may suggest, but can be a little slow to change direction I guess. But they got lotsa power, and really do feel great under heavy braking. Very confidence inspiring mid-turn too.

Very distinctive looking bike as well.

not interested in really long rides, i got a car for that, but my height does allow me to sit up on my 250 more than most people, so i assume it'll be the same situation with the 7.
I'm a pretty quick learner, so i reckon i might get the hang of the power pretty quick.
i want it for fun not commuting so i don't care if i'm buggered when i get off it, that just means i've had an awesome day.

Given your height you may well enjoy the more stretched out ride position of the 7. These bikes IMHO still give you plenty of FUN 4 your $$. In the right hands you can still give the litre bikes a run for their money :D . Long runs aren't a problem just straight hwy stuff sucks(sore wrist/numb hand.....sometimes). You can tour on these bikes as well.
Also are great bike if you wanna do the odd trackday as well.

I agree with greenmeanie, i'm 6ft 84kg and it was very comfy for the return trip to PI from Brisvegas 5400km, no sore wrists back or bum. they've got bullet proof donks (as have all kwakas) and a great front end. Not as quick as a 9 out of the corners, not as flickable as a 6, but very stable once you're into the corner.

i've just done the 250-zx6 jump. havn't ridden anything bigger so don't know what it's like but it just seemed logical to me. still kind of economical, cheap rego still compared to car, $1000 for full comp (i'm 22) etc. I dare say i'll be up for an upgrade by the end of next summer though.

depends if you're comparing 2000 929 or my 1995 zx-9r... I reckon even those two would be a pretty big difference (not that I've ever ridden a 929)

I was 6 feet 1 inch and 141 kilo when I got my 2002 ZX6R 636. I stepped up from a ZZR250. It was an excellent bike. Fun handling. I dont know much about the 7 or 9, but from my height and size, the bike was excellent. Though you might wanna soften the standard seat.

I'm guess the 9 R wouldnt be much slower than the 10, and now I'm 6 feet 2 inch and 97 kilo, the 10 is a beast! And if the 9 is anything similar, I dont think I'd be here typing if I had jumped from the 250 to the 9 (10). Its just such a big jump, sometimes people dont appreciate (respect) it enough...
