Just thought I'd update. Offending dog was put down by the council yesterday.
My wife has physically healed but mentally scares still remain. My dog is doing well to, having a cast on his back leg doesn't stop him from trying to do the things he use to. It's good to see him happy.
The recovery of money spent on vet and doctor bills from the owner of the dog is still with the solicitors.

Glad your wife and dog are recovering. not nice I know
But I still can not understand why the dog had to be put down just becouse its owner was a shit one.
Dogs and any pets are like children and should be treated as such. They need to be shown right from wrong by there owner's. we don't put kids down that are miss treated by there parents we remove them.
As somone that only last week had to put both of my staffys down becouse some low life bashed them and broke there backs it kills me when I read that this dog was put down. I would love to have taken that dog and given it the lessons in life it should have already been given. Far better than killing it. Its only crime was having bad "parents".

A sad story perhaps that the dog had bad parents. Agreed that raised differently the likelyhood of such an attack would have been greatly reduced.
However, putting children and dogs in the same category is just plain ludicrous.
"Its only crime was having bad parents" , i beg to differ it seemed to attack on this occassion another dog and a Human!!!

Yes it did attack another dog and human. It is by nature a hunting dog. It had not been shown any better so it just done what its bred to do. Still not the dogs fault. Ive had many dogs over the years all of them "hunting" breeds. Not one of them has ever attacked anything ever. I have 4 kids not one of them has ever been bitten by any of our dogs.
If my dogs had bitten some one I would blame myself not the dog as I wouldn't have done my job of raising it properly. I do not belive in ending the life of any animal becouse its owner was nothing but a owner when they should have been a teacher.

The dog was put down because the dead shit owner did not want to claim it back from the council. He's refusing to admit its his dog. He's saying that he sold the dog to someone else but doesn't remember who. He's worried that had he claimed the dog that he would then be liable. As I said, it's still with the solicitor. I'm thinking the council had no choice. They can't just give a dangerous dog away.

Why?
if a child violently lashes out the parents/guardian are blamed
if a dog violently lashes out why not blame its owner/guardian
A dog may be a bred with tendancies, but it's the owner who has contol of the environment.

From that the coucil had no choice and wouldnt want the back lash of releasing a now labelled "dangerous dog" back into the community, especially if it did attack again. The leagal implications for them are huge.
Great to hear your loved ones are on the mend. I'd still persue the legel road & take the dead shit to the cleaners! "" The man behind the dog syndrome"" "" Im as weak as piss, but my dog can beat your dog"" by the sounds of it. Get the shitbag!
As for the council, if the guy wasnt / didnt have the balls, in claiming the dog was his, under the DD act, council would have no way out but to put it down. Sad as it is. I love all living things, & my motto is live & let live. But in this case & many others, its just impossable to let it slide..

Was the dog registered?
The dog wasn't registered but was chipped. The person registered against the chip I believe is the owner and so does the council investigator. This is the person I'm going after. He claims that he sold the dog.
