Insurance Co rang me back the licence No, name etc were all made up and turns out the ID was made using a stolen RTA machine a week earlier, car was stolen and unregistered (fake rego sticker) No excess payable by me as I did the right thing and car was fixed :)

Got a call from the cops a month later to find out the same driver and car were caught in another prang this time seriously injuring someone.

Full Comp insurance is not just covering who you may injure or material you damage but hopefully will cover yourself!

That's soo wrong on soo many levels! .. But glad you came out ok :D

Unfortunately it is getting worse, something like 1% of vehicles booked for traffic offences are for unregistered vehicles. So you can make anything you want compulsory but that is no guarantee you will be covered. Best not to leave it to others to protect you.

You might want to read carefully you PDS as I was at a business forum a few months ago covering a range of issues including insurance. Basically one of the speakers was implying that some insurance companies are trying to write into their policy that if your booked for serious traffic offences that cause an accident then they won't payout, much like if you drive PCA (DUI as some understand it). I don't know of any that are or on what basis they are excluding, but it doesn't surprise me that this is happening. You used to be covered for driving PCA.

Wattie, problem is there seems to be a push to widen the net to other offences like dangerous driving for example or similar offences where they can prove you drove illegally. Big can of worms and I not sure if they can do it legally. Only heard of insurance companies supposedly exploring the issue.

Be happy with that Hawk :o)

The other thing that I'm seeing is the concept of protective gear coverage asan addon... Did they once upon a time automically cover helmets etc up to a certain amount? and have now seperated it out as another factor?

Fight Fight Fight haha

Wow you guys have cheap Insurance my bike cost umm how do i say it " A bloody arm & leg worth on insurance"

But as said above i insure mine cause if have a mojor accident or anything over my excess i just don't have that money laying around to fix or replace my bike.

Maybe its my age (27) and bike being one of the most crashed bikes on the planet in the highest risk category. But yeah no 3 digit yearly premiums for me :(

I go with QBE Shannons was a close second on there prices. Swan was similar but $100 more and NRMA was like triple the price Haha.
