Re: Was seized, now UNSEIZED!
He didn't fall off. He was riding along, the back wheel locked. Hit the starter whilst coasting and it fired back up again. Briefly.
Gos, I've kicked it over slowly. There's no weird noises and it seems to have plenty of compression. The oil wasn't cloudy when I took it out.
I'm thinking about ripping the engine out and getting it down to the local bloke to have a look at. Probably cost me $100 for him to give it the once over, but at least then I'll know.

Re: Was seized, now UNSEIZED!
Probably good insurance mate.....if he can do this for $100, then that is not too bad. From the description you have, it does sound like it has just nipped up after overheating a bit.....
this may have done some really light damage to the bore, hopefully it will be no more than that....
especially considering that the engine is now spinning freely by hand.
The real test will be when it fires up and runs under power.....

You're right, that is a big question. Not a big question like what's the meaning of life?, or how did the universe begin?, or why doesn't McDonalds sell hotdogs? But a big question...the kid wrote:Big question Ardy , where did the coolant go ? Need to sort that . Hows the radiator ?
The radiator seems fine. No idea where the hell the water has gone.

Head Gasket ?? Doesn't always show up with water in the oil , but could be going out the exhaust ? Altho you did say the ports were carboned up . Would have thought they would be steam cleaned with a blown head gasket loosing water . Can't think properly now wondering about that hot dog question

Ummmm let me see

Re: Was seized, now UNSEIZED!
Well, put some fresh oil in, topped up the coolant and kicked her in the guts.
The end result wasn't good. Wasn't as bad as expected either. Didn't really sound any different to normal so we let it run for a bit. Drained the oil and there's lots of little tiny specs of metal through it. No way of knowing where those bits are from. Could be from a bearing, good just be from the barrel/rings as it all beds in again.
Going to take the engine out me thinks.

Re: Was seized, now UNSEIZED!
I'll take a punt - when the piston seized, the localised hot 'spot' will have scored in the barrel - this is where all the little specs are from.....top-end rebuild mate, new piston/rings and a re-bore should see you right.aardvark wrote:..... That's what I'm thinking. Will check the bottom end whilst I'm at it.Gosling1 wrote:I'll take a punt - when the piston seized, the localised hot 'spot' will have scored in the barrel - this is where all the little specs are from.....top-end rebuild mate, new piston/rings and a re-bore should see you right.
