.. whether there's a banner ad on the side or not.. it doesn't change the popular topic of conversation nor does it negatively affect those who frequent the site.....

If there was a banner ad on the side of every topic, it would piss me off no end. It may not change the topic of conversation, sure, but its an intrusion into every post, that may well be unwanted. Its almost like having a Macdonalds ad running continuously along the bottom edge of your favourite TV channel ! How long before you changed channels, just to make the ad dissapear ?

I hate that *other* site with its pages full of ad-whoring, its abominable and makes the site look incredibly cluttered and almost like the page of a magazine ! Uurrgggh, if I want to see that, I will buy a magazine.

This place is a success because of the lack of paid advertising, not despite the lack.... , oh and the laid-back moderating is a huge plus, compared to the ego-driven NetNazis who exist on some other forums.....

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

There will be no cash for comment and ppls opinions can be expressed without fear nor favour... within reason of course (hey S & W ).
The only restrictions I put on comments (as per the quoted line above) is if they are abusive, offensive or slanderous... or its a chopped pic of me in a compromising position..

but the answer i think dave was after, is "what is the cost of advertising"....

to which..if we work on a $1000 per 100 member basis....and we have 1000 members.... doesnt that mean, we are worth $10k??
