Got the bike home on Sunday, and has sat aside for a couple of days while I ponder what to do with it.
After sharing some memories, a bourbon and a quite moment together the other night I turned the key and hit the starter. She fired up no worries - kind of loud though with a smashed exhaust. Hope!
The decision has been made that it will be reserected, will definitely take some time given the lack of funds available.
The list of salvagable parts is definitely shorter than that of all the fucked parts. About all I have is -2 wheels, brakes, suspension, tank and an engine. Everything in between is either good for the bin or has already been swept up and put in the dumpster at Broadford.
Went past Vic wreckers this arvo, they have a frame and subframe - $1500. Too steep at the moment. Enquiries towards straightening and welding will be made.
Tonight I put it up on the bench and started to remove all of the damaged fairing. Tomorrow I will have the plugs out and oil the cylinders while it still cranks over. The engine is fine aside from some scrapes, didnt lose any fluids. This will be a long road to travel so I don't want the engine damaged in the meantime.
On the plus side by the time I finish rebuilding I might be eligable for some form of Historic racing

Ouch. She looks a bit ordinary mate  Although it's not pretty, I suspect you could get the frame straightened out (the worst damage I can see in the pics is a bent subframe and some scuffs on the left side of the perimeter frame). How bad is the headstock? Don't quote me, but I reckon Laurie Alderton will do it for under $500 (it was $350 to straighten Caths tracky but it wasn't as bad). The forks can be straightened for about $90 a pair (I assume they're bent).

If you're in a bind we might be able to bring the bike to Sydney after the GP (you'll need to arrange transport to get it back home, but we could save you half the transport costs).

Still 50/50 on the forks. Will put a straight edge against them as soon as I can get a clear look at em. Headstock appears ok, although still early days. The frame is cracked / torn verticaly through both beams below the tank. Will know more once everything has been removed.
Cheers for the offer of transportation though I have a lead to follow down here first, and I am doubtful I would be able to strip it down in time - Bathurst this weekend after all 8)

Ouch, torn frame's a bitch. Laurie actually doesn't want you to stip too much off the bike. Engine remains (carbs up are off), swing-arm stays in, real wheel stays in. The airbox, wiring harness, bars, etc all come off obviously, but it can be done in about 2 hours if need be - surely you don't need to watch all 12 hours of taxi racing :)

Well, down that way, Bob Martin's would be the people to talk to.

As for repairs... yeesh. That's going to take some fixing. It'll make a reasonably economical trackbike provided the frame can be fixed (and they usually can be), but returning it to the street? It'll have to be a labour of love, because it certainly won't make any financial sense.

Bob Martin's has closed, apparently due to pressures from Vic Roads.

BME / Bob Martin Engineering will be closing up shop at the end of this month.
I-K. If I had the money then yes it would be an absolute labour of love and I would not hesitate to be at the spare parts counter ordering everything required to put it back to the way it was. Alas the finances wont cope, and so a race bike it shall become. Things are a little more positive today, frame can be repaired. The feelers are out for everything else.
I noticed someone here has the signature of " A mate will always bail you out of jail, but a good mate will be sitting beside you saying Jeez we fucked up!" Well it seems I have a good circle of friends all around me now saying " Jeez your fucked up. How can we help?"
Like I said earlier in this thread I have a mantra " No such things as problems, only opportunities to find solutions"

What no major Broken bones, not even a stretched Spleen or twisted teste ?. Fuggen hurry up & Fix it & get out there till you do it right. A Kwaka Dinner pack is worn like a badge of honour, it's equivalent to a passing out parade. Or though you dont necessarily have to be unconcsious to get the full effect.

Seriously Mate, I was looking for an excuse to have a chat on the phone with ya & well maybe you didn't have to go THIS far, but i'll bell you tomorrow anyway. It would seem I have a REMUS slip on destined for a road trip south. ;) Anyone from Brisvegas heading down south soon ?.
