Yep - way better than those crossover straps. Not only will they destroy your grips, I have seen clip-ons actually bent under the pressure exerted from these straps. They are also shithouse for fork seals, like any sort of tie-down from the bars or even the bottom triple clamp. (for longer trips anyway. Short trips around the burbs - no worries.)
If anyone has an older bike with a solid front axle, there is a better way of tying these bikes down as well, cheap and cheerful...
Just wrap the longer end of a normal tie-down around the upper fork-leg, right on top of the lower fork leg, 2 or 3 times. You can wrap a bit of rag around here if you like - and then just hook the strap through the hook a short distance away from the fork leg. Other end of tie-down goes down to a tie-down point.....and tighten it up . Do this on the other side. Bingo - the bike is attached nice and tight, and rides on its own suspension, so the fork seals are not damaged. I used to trailer the Black Pearl to the track like this all the time. It works really well, and you don't need any costly bits apart from your standard tie-downs. This method works best if no dust-covers are present on the lower fork legs.
