well, having ridden motorcycles longer than you have been breathing, I *can* understand brand loyalty.......its something that cannot be bought or sold like some piece of shit Honda or Suzie, you either have green blood or you don't......

Frank - take it for some good rides over your normal roads, 2-up and solo, and then make your decision. If your mate is dinkum about the swap, then there should not be any problem in organising a weekend ride..........and as far as
...it would eat his ZX12r
, well what can I say  , every R1 pilot thinks this........I am still waiting for an R1 to hose my 12........

Bladey mate ..... don't be offended, my very first bike was a Team Soichiro, my best mate in the early 80's had a CB125, then a CB250, then a CB750F2..........all of which used to get hosed by a rattley smoking RD350   I just find Honda's basically *boring*, lacking *character*, and they really do *nothing* for me at all

what I choose to decorate my tackle with has *nothing* to do with motorcycles

My first road bike was a Honda. I thought it was insane............... Until I rode a Z650!!!!! :D

I am brand loyal. I love my Kawasaki's. I have tried fucking other bikes, but they just don't fall apart the way a Kawasaki does for me. My last non Kawasaki was a Honda. I bought it for it's purported quality. It fell apart quicker than any Kawasaki I ever owned. And, just to add insult to injury, the thing fell over and broke my ribs!!! ANd, if that wasn't bad it enough, it was boring!!!! Feckin Hondas!

Anyway, My first Kawasaki was actually a Z250B. But I always lusted after the big Z's as a teen. After that I had a Yamaha, then a Suzuki, and then returned to the fold with the GPX750. (I still get w woody thinking of some of the things i did on that bike!!)  Then another Suzuki, then two Yamaha's before coming back to the big K again. So while brand loyal, sometimes i will ride what I can find for a decent price. But, at the end of the day, all things being equal, I would buy a Kwaka before anything else.

Time is a funny thing. Familiarity is an even funnier thing. I perhaps like Gos, have worked on so many Kawasaki's I just KNOW how they go together! Whereas, working on the non Kawasaki's takes time and effort to ensure things come apart and go back together easily! So it makes Kawasaki's a good choice for me. I know my way around them, and am comfy with having them in bits when neccesarry.

Also, believe it or not, all manufacturers, just like TV and Radio stations, have their own style or tune. They have a character they exhibit throughout their range. An example of this is that Kawasaki motors are Usually inansely powerful, and love screaming and wailing into the top end! Where as Honda's are flat and even throughout the rev range! It's their signature!

So for these reasons, and cause Kawasaki's are the best bikes, I don't as a rule ride the other shitboxes! Especially those feckin puss bucket bore master Hondas!

What I find amusing is that people who ride other brands of bikes join a Kawasaki forum and then hang shit on Kawasaki riders for liking Kawasaki's.

Guess I am priveleged that I have been able to own and ride lotsa different bikes and brands. My two faves now would be Kawasaki and Honda. The other two Japs don't push my buttons at all. Suzukis still have electrical problems and Yamahas have expensive spares. Don't think much of R1s as a rule but the one I am looking at is kewl. I have until February to make my mind up about the swap as my mate finishes paying for the R1 then.
I've been a Kawasaki nut for years but have been disappointed recently in the quality and design of the bikes. I think they have followed Suzukis lead in ugly, started by the Busa. :? :(
2 X ZRX1200R 4 X ER6N, GT550, 1988 ZX-10, 4 X GPZ250R, 4 X GPZ900R and GPZ750R :) Yeah I like Kawasakis.

I came so close to buying a ZX-10, and in many ways i wish i did, especially the way prices have dropped.
The VFR is my first Honda, the V4 exhaust note with staintunes just humms. I bought it because it fits my riding style and is somewhat 'sensible', but after 5 months i do find it somewhat 'boring'.

Since i can't just go round swapping bikes i'm stuck with it, an orange 10 was my second choice.
If there had of been a kwakka dealer a bit closer to me then the choice would have been a bit harder (easier) i reckon.

Anyone wanna swap a 10R for a VFR??

You don't need to experience all life has to offer. I have no desire to have my arm bitten off by a shark, I don't intend to ever go to a Kylie Minogue concert and I certainly don't plan on sticking my dick in another blokes arse.

It turns out that we have both changed our minds. Went for a ride yesterday and we swapped bikes. (first time anyone but me has ridden my ZZR too.)
I expected the R1 to eat the ZZR for breakfast performance wise, and handling and braking wise it does. Engine wise it is still a bit faster but it doesn't murder the 12 like I thought it would. Maybe the small mods on my 12 help- 46 tooth rear sprocket, flo commander and staintune pipes.
We did third gear roll ons from 70km/h and the 12 crawled away until the R1 eventually passed it. I wonder if my mate was a bit slow hitting the throttle? I thought it would murder the 12 there too- Fast bikes did a comparo (Mach 2) with the Blackbird, R1, ZZR11 and Busa- the R1 ate ALL of them in roll ons- mind you this was a carbed R1- lotsa people are saying the carbed R1s are quicker than the injected. (I find this hard to believe- current R1s have claimed power similar to the ZX12R)
I have a SEVERE weight penalty to my mate and his R1- his bike would be 50kg lighter than mine, and I'm 30 odd kg heavier than him.
I found the R1 pretty soul-less and uncomfy (getting old this GT550 rider) but it was bloody impressive in the handling and braking- it felt like my Spada in the ride position and the way you can treat corners with no respect. It happened to be fitted with a 1000cc engine and tended to accelerate well though. I reckon the ZX12R old mate had before the R1 would chew it up though- that thing was f'ing mental- he must have a poor memory to reckon the R1 is quicker- his was a geared 03 or 04 model.(one before radial brakes)
I suggested in jest that his R1 was a 'girls bike' coz there was no room for one's 'man-ness' as my (average sized I'm told) man-ness was pressed against the tank of the R1- either a sex-change or a carefully aimed punch to the rear of the R1 tank to put a man-ness-sized dent would make it more comfy. There is room to sit further back, but that increases the reach to the bars even more.( maybe I need surgically stretched arms?)
Anywho the short of the proposed swap was that old mate didn't like the ZZR braking (compared to the brakes on an R1 of course a ZZR is gonna have crap brakes- even though mine has braided lines and Dunlopads) and he couldn't bring himself to go back to carbies. (bloody Ferrari, Porsche, Land Rover mechanics- that's his trade) I don't think the ZZR is 'flashy' enough for him either.
For me the R1 was a great sportbike, but didn't push my buttons. The bike we rode with yesterday that DID press my buttons however (and couldn't bloody catch in the tight twisties but kept with it in the openish) was a new RED Ducati Sport 1000 with suspension and chip work. HORN. :D
The ZZR was quicker than the R1 around Splityard Ck yesterday. I think that was down to the rider though. I think old mate is typical of a lot of R1 riders- a bit intimidated by it and pussy it around.
