The famous French post-modernist philosopher Michel Foucault wrote great treatises on the knowledge and power 'intersections' on the human body.
The government, in his view, interferes with us, our lives, by demanding to know everything about us, demanding we submit to their questions. Yet we cannot question them - this is a process of infantilisation of us, a means to drive us to all be obedient human beings respondig without question.
Writing "Jedi" or "x" or "Get stuffed" is the only expression an individual has to reject this impost upon us.
Government is faceless, we as individuals are powerless against it. Anyone who has tried to talk to their local government member will know what this feels like.
So I support screwing around with the Census - as Foucault recommended - as it is the only legitimate form of civil disobendience to protest against our lives being controlled and monitored, registered, and coordinated by an insidious, faceless government.
We don't really think the Census will tell the government where to build a school? Where the freakin' votes are, that's what will do it. What else will it tell? Does the government care about the number of motorcyclicsts around? Who cares? Which individual in Government would care about that? And why? To build better roads? Provide better facilities?
It is our only form of protest.

Hahaha the faceless government won't listen to what I have to say, but when they ask me to tell them I'm going to "protest" by telling them crap. As I said, a load of rubbishKishy wrote:Yep.. fuck em.gray_rm wrote: It is our only form of protest.

I wasn't talking about the census, I was talking about all the other information that the private sector are collecting and collating about you and your family, what you buy, where you buy it, how you pay for it, what your income is, where you live etc.Kishy wrote:Hence my non-participation & feedback comments I gaveMick C wrote: Fair enough...but the private sector collect what they want and sell it off anyway

The beauty of such civil disobedience isn't that government doesn't HAVE to listen to my protest... it is the perfectly silent protest by not doing what they want.Mick C wrote:Hahaha the faceless government won't listen to what I have to say, but when they ask me to tell them I'm going to "protest" by telling them crap. I don't care whether they read my comments or not - the real deal is that I have been disobedient!
This is the same as Donkey voters. Donkey voting is the best way to be civilly disobedient - it is compulsory to vote, so you comply, but aren't forced to choose when you don't want to!

Singing the song of angry men?"

I still don't get it.
You say votes will determine where schools are funded, but then advocate donkey votes.
You say the government won't listen to us as individuals, but then advocate individual pointless protest when given the chance of having your say.
You say the government doesn't care about the number of motorcyclists around, yet advocate people stuff up their census so they won't be counted and the government will never know they ride.
You say we cannot question the government (therefore "infantilising" us) then advocate childish reactive behaviour, instead of questioning and seeing for yourself the value of the information they are asking for.
Do you really think that most of the people who wrote Jedi were doing so as a form of protest? Or was it a childish prank that they thought would be fun to brag about to their mates, or because Rove thought is was funny?
It reeks of hypocrisy.

OK - I vill say zis ernly wernce...
I don't donkey vote - I number all the boxes under the line. But I am very pleased that people do, because it is their right to protest. If they don't care if they get schools, f*!% em! My vote counts, so I use it!Mick C wrote:I still don't get it.

But the government doesn't listen - and they aren't here - it's a crock!Mick C wrote:You say the government won't listen to us as individuals, but then advocate individual pointless protest when given the chance of having your say.
But the Govt doesn't DO anything with the data, that is the WHOLE point of this argument.Mick C wrote:You say the government doesn't care about the number of motorcyclists around, yet advocate people stuff up their census so they won't be counted and the government will never know they ride.
No! We are unable to challenge govt. Census is not about challenging govt., or getting any personal value out of the census. It does not deliver schools, roads, churches whatever...Mick C wrote:You say we cannot question the government (therefore "infantilising" us) then advocate childish reactive behaviour, instead of questioning and seeing for yourself the value of the information they are asking for.
Who knows? Am I my brother's keeper?Mick C wrote:Do you really think that most of the people who wrote Jedi were doing so as a form of protest? Or was it a childish prank that they thought would be fun to brag about to their mates, or because Rove thought is was funny?
