Looks like good cheap fun, how easy are they to find?

I dont think you would need brakes if you are racing one of those.
If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

Great anudder 1 :D
Image
this is mine before the mods

with the micron race chambers
Jason I have the manual can copy to disk for you when i get the other computer back together.
running on backup atm
and you do have to use the brakes as there is minimal engine braking on these bikes
Mate they are a great bike to ride Hi end mods can produce upto 70kw from a 250cc
bty the exhaust gaskets are copper to save just use a blade to expand the gasket before refitting
Looks about an 82 model :?: mines 88 so still qualifies for new era racing I think some parts are available from yamaha  if your lucky but there is a great net community for these bikes if you need a link just ask

If it's like all the 2 strokes I have played with when I raced MX, alot of silastic always fixed my exhaust leaks, actually most of my exhaust on the CR250 in the shed is glued at the joins with silastic....

Ah, I still got a soft spot for RD's, had one back in the early 80's and abso"bloody"lutely loved it.... first bike I ever mono'ed and first bike I ever crashed, (not both at the same time) but never try late braking on an RD.

If you wouldn't mind that'd be great! I'm going to have to pull the top end off and do some work to it and I only have the 350 manual which is close, but not quite close enough.

Yes thats the manual I have but later edition. 250 supplement pages are as rare as rocking horse poo  But the good news is that a 350 top end will bolt straight on but they are rare besides there were so many variations for the 250 in australia as the adr regulations were continually changing at that time (the specs change from bike to bike)
Suggest you try this link are very helpful
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/ultimatelccrazy/
loads of info some have even graduated to Kawas and joined KSRC :D
Other sites for info :
http://www.yamaha-rd.com/forum/
Anyway hope that helps for now
ps piss off the standard pipes and get a decent set of chambers as the standard pipes are very restrictive then you will notice a difference :D

HHmmmmmmmmmmm....... might go out and annoy the neighbours :P

Ahhh!! memories had a RD350LC when i was 17 did some work and track work on it then, some of the the mods:

Handling Dept:
fork spring changed to harder (Increased with spacers to fine tune em)
fork brace (machined)
steering damper
rear shock spring change(Quite difficult on the oem shock)
0.5-1.0 inch fork lowered
Tires used then was a Dunlop TT200

Engine Dept:
pod filters
carbs jetted
Boyesen reed valves
carb balance Boost bottle
carbs internals polished
clutch springs washered up to prevent clutch slip
Engine heads skimmed 0.1mm
copper head and bottom gaskets
High speed cranshaft bearings
polished the rods and crankshaft
piston skirt modified to increase intake charge thru modified and polished barrel ports
Spark plugs NGK R(blue)
Exhaust was a DG chamber pipe

Imagine your 17 and having that kind of tool to ride with.... Blue Smoke Bliss....and many hospital visits
KAWAROCKS!!!!.....VOODOO-CHILD!!!!

Go team Castrol R, that smell takes me way back and never had any major enjine problems either. Gear boxes are another matter. If you split the case and still can't get the selector out - it's rooted
