Gloves are they illegal not to wear them
Push bike style helmets are what the brain surgeon institute ot whatever rrecommend - no vision issuesCar drivers have enough trouble seeing us WITHOUT them wearing a helmet, think about how much more they wouldn't be able to see us. Are you sure you want cae drivers to wear a helmet?
Just one more law and everyone will be safe.

Nice little anecdote.
Before you consider getting on your bike without gloves try this little exercise.
Take a bench grinder, turn it on, take both hands and try and stop the disc spinning using only your hands. Result? Not pretty
(kids, this is an example only, do not try this at home)
The bench grinder is probably spinning at about 14metres/second. When your on your bike at 60km/h your doing 17 metres/second. Hit the deck and do what everyone does ie stick your hands out and if you don't have gloves on then my advice is to make sure you live with someone who is very close to you (they need to be if they're going to be wiping your bum for a couple of weeks)

You're crazy if you don't but
mrmina is absolutley right. They don't actual specify what type of helmet as long as its Australian Standards approved, And guys bagging the guy for not wearing gloves....are you telling me you've never jumped on the bike just to go to the shop...I mean 500meters can be far...and only worn the helmet?mrmina wrote:law only states u wear a helmet with an AS sticker on it.
Again, i'm one of those that have come off and would never do it....although I have done the tank top, helmet and gloves...I'm so used to the feel of the bike with gloves on its different without it....but any longer distance I'm a full cover up girl.

well, we sure like our gloves around here
I will be the first to admit, when it is stinking hot, and I am only doing the shop-run, or maybe even the 9-5 commute drag, yes, I wear fingerless gloves......it just makes picking my nose that much easier
besides, it gives you that *Outlaw* *Bro* look .........mmmmm, just the ticket on late-model sports tackle.........
cheers

Dirt gloves - for the times U dont feel like wearing gloves.
I use 'em whenever I have that "can't be bothered with gloves it's just down the shop" thought.
Before yas get all exited I am in no way saying they are as good as $300.00 carbon back jobbies but better than none and easy on/off and cool.

Man you are ok yeah? last I heard you had a major off so how did that go?Shifty wrote:I have a pair of gloves that cost me $300 - I bought them before I even got a bike as I figured they were the first thing to hit the ground. As it turns out I had a pretty big accident where I went off an embankment. I scuffed up the triple-layer palm nicely and smashed my hand hard enough to put a dent in the carbon fibre knuckle protector. The knuckle protector is so solid that I can't pop the dent back out.. I can't even move it at all........ and my hands didn't even have a mark.
I hope everything healed and went right.

Yeah mate, Shifty is fine. My last accident was at a reasonable speed but nothing much to speak of in the way of injuries, apart from the loss of my last KwakaMan you are ok yeah? last I heard you had a major off so how did that go?
I hope everything healed and went right.

Draggin jeans did their job and I only copped the standard all-over soreness, some minor grazing & nasty bruising on my knees (draggins were farked, they do their job well - I 'highsided' after I overbraked into a tankslapper.. I landed from two metres up, straight onto my knees) and a bit of a twisted ankle (wearing race boots but with draggins there's no shin armour so they still move around a fair bit). And again... gloves in this accident copped a beating by my hands unmarked.
I've had three accidents, one was minor at low speed where I was cut off by a cab... gloves first. Second was a pretty major off where I tumbled and went down an embankment... not sure what hit first but that's the one where the carbon knucles copped a beating. And the most recent (last?) one is as above where the GPZ bit the dust (as did the gf's bike).

its only helments in nsw as everyone has mentioned
and as for making full riding gear a must, this would be difficult as 1) you can not standardise the leather used as it coes form so many different places and 2) people would not comply, tell me how many fo you will completely suit up in full leathers and riding gear to take a 5 min trip to teh shop which you woudl usualy jsut put on jeans and jacket for.
i know i wouldnt, becuase it woudl take me longer to get my gear on so i woudl jsut go for an hours ride and stop at teh shop on the way home.
they are trying to make gloves and boots illegal if your not wearing them, but lets see how long it takes them to do it.
