my ex-husband wanted a cruiser. i wanted a sportbike. so we went ahead and got the cruiser. it was fun except i kept dragging the footpegs while going around corners. oops.

82 GSX 400E twin. Bought nearly a year ago now.
Great bike for what it was, had electrical gremlins but went OK otherwise. Never really rode it hard round corners (probably a good thing), that all came later when I joined KSRC on the Zephyr. Caned it in a straight line though, was actually suprised with the pull it had for what it looked like. Sold it when the Zephyr came along, been a Kwaka man ever since.

I bought a Kwaka MachIII, one of the most dangerous bikes ever made
Smitty, I am going to ride down to Melbourne and bring around a slab, so we can compare old biking stories. My first REAL big bike ( after the RD) was a 750H2. These things are still spoken about in hushed tones. I still have mine. It is still fast. Very fast. Scary fast. At least the stock hinge in the frame has been removed....../quote]
One of these days, I'm gonna make a concerted effort to talk the owner of a 70's two-stroke into giving me a go; I want to see just what the fuss is about...

just make sure your life insurance is paid up....

mate
seriously
the 500cc H1 and later 750H2 were kwakas built with bicycle frames
the H1 had drum brakes of about 140mm (5") diameter
on cross ply tyres on 3" rims (the 750 came with a front disc)
plus
performance that gave you mid 11 sec ¼mile times
and top speeds of 120mph(H1) or more...in 1970!
the performance came not so much from very powerful engines
(the 500cc made about 65hp) but light weight,
from memory the MachIII weighed about 170kg with fuel and oil (wet)
Kawasaki advertised the MachIII in 1970 as the worlds fastest bike
hth
cheers

DATE- May 1999?
BIKE- 1997 zx7r
DESCRIPTION - The subject of my day dreams at school.
MEMORABLE MOMENT- Pulling up after really cracking the throttle open for the first time and thinking, "What the F#&k have I just bought.
HOW MUCH COSTY ?- $11,000 with 4000km. Who knows what I have spent in total on tyres, chains and smashed bits. But cares....?
WHY DID I BUY IT ?? - To be able to ride, and keep up with my ill brother.
HOW LONG DID YOU KEEP IT ? - 7 years so far. Will never part with it. Will eventually live under a cloth in the shed.
WHY DID YOU SELL IT ??? - No-one has been able to convince me to yet.

It is far better to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even if chequered with failure, than to take rank with those who neither enjoy much nor suffer much, as they live in grey twilight that knows no victory nor defeat.

LOL i got an original orange mars leather jacket from the 70's which i kept, and now it's really cool again.
1st road bike purchased 1982- a 1974 honda 400 four supersport

It was the only bigger road bike available for sale at the time in my small country town.
I traded it in on a 1984 Ducati 1000 Mille desmo brand new, which I have always regreted selling

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

your poor bugger - this is almost exactly what happened to a really good friend of mine back in 1985 - he had just bought a new GSXR-750, and within a month, had 1 really bad day - booked twice in ONE day by the same copper, for doing wheelstands, both times !!!
