Xbox are making changes already.. They know they screwed up..

Hmmmm maybe I should upgrade from my PS1, not that I've played a game in almost forever.

I don't think they'll change that... from what I read, they're using a new way to program games so it's easier for developers as it reduces costs and time. Unless they're willing to load the console with 2 different operating softwares (unlikely) going for backward compatability will mean re-writing the current software (if it didn't have that to start with).

having been employed with one of the majors ...
some rely on the console making money ..whilst others make their own propriety software and other use 3rd parties and license the game itself
similar to Telcos etc etc ........ phones and plans
so it all depends were there they derive the bottom line from ...its complicated and mostly driven from japan and the states
be under no illusion they make serious coin from this and the stakes are high ....
I know in japan there's a big push for games to be predominately available on line only
and you wont have a game to swap or trade after you've mastered it ... nada zilch nothing
although I don't think this will happen in Australia .. but who knows
and old games are timeless and there's heaps of dollars in nostalgia

Yeah, never could understand why they didn't replicate the original Donkey Kong on Nintendo DS - I would have got it.

I've got the old sonic and Mario on the Wii.
The noises get old quick! But if you have your own background music on its alright
