Re: Anyone can build a bike.......
So I woke up and thought to myself, what can I destroy today? Went into the shed and kept stripping the 2nd bike. Decided to take of he rear wheel and suspension. Took of the nut attached to the rear axle but it was still stuck solid. It was jammed up in one of the spacers but I ended up knocking it out after a little bit of work. Frustrating.
After this it seemed as though every nut and bolt simply refused to be removed. I had to literally swing off them until I heard that glorious almighty cracking sound that come from old shit finally snapping loose.
In the end I took pretty much everything off and was just left with the engine. Another few frustrating bolts had issues with removing themselves from their mounts, but they gave eventually as well. I noticed some damage to one of the "cooling fins??" on the engine right near the rhs front mount. There also appears to be re-welding work done near the engine mounting point on the frame.......crap. It looks as thought the bike as gone over and the canister section that the engine mount bolt goes through has been punched out of the frame. The repairer has re-attached the tube to the frame. I've cleaned it up a bit so it doesn't look too bad. Here's a pick of the two frames, try to cap your excitement.

In the end everything came off, and for today only, nothing was destroyed. Still glad I've got spares.

Sheesh just reading that gives a good idea of what's involved in bringing bikes back from age and neglect. Glad you've got spares!

Re: Glad I've got spares.......
Thought i'd post a little comment on where it's at.............GOING ABSOLUTELY NO WHERE!!!!
This all happened a little while ago I was examining the 2nd frame from all angles. It didn't look good. I found an engine mount (tube running through the frame near the front) that initially appeared to have been re-welded in but then it became obvious the weld went right around the frame tube. SHIT. Another frame weld was found near the bottom frame on the same length of tube. Also noticed that right down at the last 20 cms of the rear the subframe has been re-welded. Has this thing been completely busted up?
Looking at the frame again it appears the main tube at the top of the fairing looks like it's bending off to the right hand side. I put a straight edge on it to confirm, yep, bent. Re-examine a third time and now the bent frame is unbelievably obvious to me.
So i'm left with two munted frames. One with a good main frame but shit subframe, and one with a shit main frame and half decent, but not perfect subframe. A blending of the two may be required. This is not likely to happen any time soon. I might take some pics and post them up tomorrow.
And that is where it's at.

If ever you need to check a bikes history, this might be the time
If I had some cash handy I might have had a look at it, unfortunately I don't
