.....As for the ELR what has it won??....

Nothing at all.

But Eddie Lawson won the 1981 & 1982 AMA Championships on a Z1000SR - the bike on which the original ELR was modelled.

That is what makes the original ELR such a great bike. Kawasaki actually made about 30-odd *real* racebikes which were based on the Z1000J model of the time - the ZRXOA has all this info on their forum.

No other manufacturer ever called any of their superbikes a replica "anything" actually - although over the last few years I have seen some retards on ebay trying to flog off their blue&white GS1000S as a "Wes Cooley Replica" which is a total crock of shit, Suzuki never used this when these bikes were released - they were simply the 'S' version of a GS1000, and Wes Cooley rode one.... the day will come soon enough when some other spanker tries to flog off an A-model CB900F as a "Freddie Spencer Replica" based on the same bullshit !!

I can't even think of one Yamaha that has been called a replica of any particular individual at all - they won so many races with so many individual pilots at the helm .....would be hard to pick anyone worthy of having a bike named after them !

The only true 'replica' racebike marketed and sold in numbers by any bike manufacturer (and even then it was in name only for the mass-produced article) - was the Eddie Lawson Replica Z1000R of 1982/83.

Yep gos, one of the original 30 odd S1 would be the go.... some say kawasaki only produced the rest to get rid of the excess stock of J parts.... but i would like to beleive they did that as a momento to eddie.... thats sounds nicer, as he could steer a bit!!! was a huge fan of eddie lawson...

I shudder to think what a (real) ELR is worth, the 30 odd S1 were for racing and came ready to go.
The rest of the producton ELR and gos will correct me if im wrong, there were only 700 or 750 made from memory?? were just slighty modified Z100J. i bought mine off ken nixson back in 97, it then went to bob martin's for some major modifcation's, big wheels, big brakes, GSXR swingarm fitted ect, and a big kitted engine, did 1.09s, at broady in 98'
got a few photo's of it during the rebuild, would love to post them up, when i figure it out!!!!!!

Valkau - many of the models I have listed have been collectors items for years mate - this is not news. Pick up any bike magazine that has a test on almost any Kawasaki sports bike, and it will start with the words "....kawasaki introduced sports motorcycles to the world in 1968 with the H1, followed a couple of years later by the H2, and then in 1972 with the magnificent Z1...." etc etc

The Z1R is a bit of a sleeper - the H has been a classic for years (due to extremely limited release globally) - you can generally tell how much of an icon a bike is, by the amount of aftermarket suppliers that still make parts for them - Z1, CB750, XS650, RD350 etc..

In terms of recent (ie within the last 30 years) releases - which will be a *classic* in the same context as my list ? Probably the first model GPz900R (already on the way as a classic) - the ZX7R - and not many others really.

I listed all the orphans which are yet to realise high dollar values and can still be had. I thought that was the gist of the thread, not what has already disappeared and become unobtanium!! So I guess our lists while being opposite in nature... yours are all the popular bikes, mine are the orphans .........

i think all the "road registered" ones were tarted up Js mate...KZ1000R...only 102 ponies

the replica...KZ1000S1...had most or all of the good race bits...136 ponies

Eddies bike had maybe 149 ponies...they must have had a new motor for every race...LOL

FMD !! I *had* that book several years ago, but it was lost during a move in the mid-90's .....great book.
