Well, the ZRX shall now and forever be known as the lemon. Having said that, I still love it and will keep it for the time being.. MickLC's Friday arvo rides are a hoot and that was enough to make me realise its not too far gone to sort.

While it was getting the fork seals sorted, some other bits were dropped into the forks for good measure. ;) Pick it up in the morning

Will most likely order front discs and pads from the states shortly. Will be booked into the mechanics to have the engine sorted and dyno'd in the next few weeks.

And so it continues. :?

This time, the starter motor bolts have come loose and fallen out completely :x .

It developed a bad miss prior to dying on me about 5 blocks from home  Not sure if its related to the above issue but i got soaked getting it home.

Mate how much bad luck can you have with a ZRX they are legendary but I guess you will find one that is made on a Friday or the day before Xmas day. Me I love mine I'm the 3rd owner and love the fucker to bits. 1999 with 80k on the clock and still not a cam chain replacement in sight. Not bad eh.

I would love a Z1000. I just couldn't sell someone my bike the way it is and get reasonable money for it. Nor could I be dishonest about its problems.

The funny thing is, I love the ZRX, looks, heritage, performance, handling and the canvas you have to personalise. I just wish my example was like everyone says a ZRX should be.

I would love to buy another ZRX, but I have to sort this one first. :(

Just modify it enough so there's not much standard stuff left on it. ;)

Well, the story with the ZRX has almost come to an end. Last Friday, on my way home form MickLC's Long way home ride (Canberra), the motor lunched itself. The engine developed a nasty rattle and seconds later, died at about 60km/h. I had little warning and less time to stop before it got nasty.

Initially, the motor would not turn over, but after getting it home and letting it sit for a while, it freed up and turns over (with one tight spot in the cycle). I pulled the sump of it last night to find what looks to be the best part of a bearing casing all chewed up and a large quantity of metal grindings. Its a pretty bleak picture without pulling the motor down to confirm my suspicions.

With an engine rebuild required, its going to be sold off as is. I am no longer interested in pouring money into it, so If anyone is interested in buying it, PM me. I have a rough idea what its worth in its current state, so will not be letting it go for $50 posted ;)

Mate sorry to hear. I'd pull the clutch cover to see if it is starter tensioner related- fix may not be that bad. :(

Already pulled the Clutch cover off. There is no further damage than it had 30,000km ago when i did the fix on it.

Im not going to put anything more into it. Its cost me a fortune to have things fixed on it over the 4 years. Not to mention my mechanic hates ringing me as he always had bad news.

I love the ZRX for what it is and how it goes, but its time for something different.
