Get a set of tyre warmers, you will save a set of tyres per year and can go faster from the first lap.

for people who ride with slicks on the track.. how do u determine when the tyre has had enough? is there a rule of thumb for example, tds 5 session each day.. then time for a change? or something else?

Slicks have a life span of hot and cold cycles, not sure of the exact number of cycles and it may differ between brands, so i'll leave that for someone else to comment on. If you use warmers, then one track day is one cycle, if you don't use warmers, then one track day (5 sessions) is 5 cycles :o Slicks also have wear indicators (little holes) across the tyre....HTH

Yes it is technically one heat cycle but it's a bloody long one.

As an example, a tyre left with the warmers on for 8 hours at 85 degrees Cel hardened the compound by one compound range i.e. soft to medium.

Just beware the heat cycles are also related to heat range...if for example you run a qualifier at 120 degrees (pit lane tyre temp) for 4 laps...it'll be fried...

If you overheat the compound consistently then it reduces the grip and the number heat cycles.

Just think of it as baking a cake...the longer you bake, the higher the temp and more often you cook it....the harder and drier it gets.

wasnt aware of the heat cycles factor.. so thats pretty interesting to know actually! was half expecting them to follow indicators like street tyres...
