If you were talking about NSW roads the correct term would be Goat Track, not Go-Kart Track

starting to get the more even tire wear you guys are so fortunately victims of

probably not an accurate wear scale for the prairies then the Rockies then the prairies again....

not even for the 1400 miles of woods if i go over the top of the lakes

so... been a while since i posted on here, thought i'd have a look as it's time for me to be getting new tyres in the next month or so.

can anybody who's ridden on pilot powers, that's switched to the M5 tell me anything that'll convince me to switch? as it seems the Power is no longer made.. i have been out of the scene for so long i dont know what's the go. thing is, i'd like to hear it from somebody who rides at the same level.

im no sunday cafe hopper, if that clears it up. im partial to dragging knees with a pillion, that's the kind of grip i want out of a tyre. the power's served me well for nearly seven years on two different bikes, it'd be like starting from scratch with a new tyre. the power's always been a reliable and predictable tyre for me, ideally the M5 will be the same to earn my trust and to part with my hard earned

stories anybody?

others opinions are great (& appreciated) but until you try something yourself you don't really know if it suits you

that said...every Metzeler i've used has met or exceeded my expectations

the Z8 i just put on the back seems ok so far....

& i'm so exited about trying the M5 front i've bought i may have to mount it before i put it on the bike...LOL

I often touched pegs down with the M3 on a 12R now fitted with M5 although they say its better than an M3 I havnt had a chance to truely test them out and trust them and have a slightly different feel imo, Diablo corsar3 is another tyre I trust totally to the edge and same with the K2 on the 10R atm and have grip levels like the power if not exceeding them. I am also impressed by the dunlop 211a on the track bike too.

Michellin make a great tyre as far as feedback feel, but I hant had much joy with them touring on heavier bikes, although strika likes them so there ya go its opinions with tyres. I think most tyres are as good as the others now days so it comes down to trying them out and finding what works for you.

See Jonno, it's misquotes like that above which cause world wars!!!! I have never, ever, ever praised Michelin for buidling tyres with great feedback and feel. Do they grip? Yes, very well! Do they steer well? Yes, very well. Good in the wet? yep! Good level of feedback and feel? fuck no! They are either there, or gone!

To me, Dunlops still manage to make a tyre which has excellent feel and feedback. When they let go, they let go with progression and much more controlability for a gumby like me. The good guys can spin Michelins all day long without trouble. Me, they tend to worry me. Dunlops however I can have walking around all over the place and KNOW they are gunna stick. Same with the Rocks. Especially a 002 front at the track. (Mind you, I guess ifthe 003 is more of the same, then one of those... )

I find Metzlers to be like better wearing, better steering, better griping Pirellis!!! I liked Metzler Racetechs, but found M3's to wear quickly and have suss edge grip. I would rather run a K3 racetech front than an M3 front. Probably the same with the rear too. I got near on 9k out of a front racetech on the 9 once. (chunks of rubber the size of 20c coins were missing on the very edges by this stage, but it was near on 9k!!! )

Yes but if you talk to the Pirelli rep they will tell you the tech and research is very different. Insisting that they are not the same tyre. Not sure how true that is but interesting all the same

the M1 is kind of seen as a touring tyre out here jeff... and given the pilot road 2 had dual compound, they'd probably be the most popular 'touring tyre' in australia, i certainly rate them...

for sticky tyres tho, i wish pirella still made these...

I had my first run with M5s this week after scrubbing them in a little last week.During a run with some patchy and cold roads they only moved once the rear one that is, and that was with some help from dusty shit on the road.It is hard to tell until i get some dry warm roads to put them through some real pace but so far so good.I have noticed the tip in is quite good and when you have to change lines as a car is somewhere he shouldnt be half way around a corner it doesnt seem to bother them which in the conditions wednesday that has got to be a plus.The other plus is being able to scrub in a rear pretty much right to the edge in less than optimal conditions.
