ZX6 gearbox

I've sort of stayed out of this debate, but there is one other thing to check. Technique! When I first got the F1 ZX6R, I used to get sticky shifts up in the top few gears. After checking and changing everything and pulling the box apart twice, I worked out, that in my endeavours for time, I wasn't coordinated well enough with unloading and shifting.

Yes I have been about thinking that, on the track I was working out if this may be contributing at the kink, I tried different things like clutching with longer pauses, chopping longer etc but it was still hard to shift unless i was being more sedate on the throttle like on other parts of the track. The lower 3 gears shifted nicely at redline.
Plenty of easy stuff to try before diving into the box.

I am keeping an open mind here, but I do suspect it is a linkage or selector issue as it does feel like that.

I ended up having a set of rollers sleeved onto mine. Made a huge difference. Also check the linkage set up as it's arrangement can alter movement ease. I think others have suggested similar or same previously. Or just gear it way tall and just run 1st, 2nd n 3rd..............

All the zx6r's appeared to have a false neutral between 3rd a d 4thand required an extra effort to change the type of oil used did surprisingly make a substantial difference to the way the boxes behaved and could be an effective solution to your problem jonno

Apparently it has Motul 5100 in it.

When was the oil last changed Jonno? I do mine every 3rd trackday and filter every 2nd oil change. Ive left it 1 extra day before and yep some false neutrals start happening on upshift particular 4-5 and 5-6.

Ive been told to use my clutch always as its a poofteenth of a second and not worth the potential damage from poor technique but thats probably just directed at me

Apparently it has Motul 5100 in it.

In a tracky I'd probably run full synth ie 7100 but if your changing it regularly it probably doesn't matter. When the Crim played up changing without the clutch was better, still played up though. I can't see that oil (no matter how old, given that oils these days are so good) could make much difference. Maybe it would mask a deeper problem. Good thing is the six is a cassette box.

Amongst other things the plan today is to pull the cover off, have a really good look and check movement of the spring on the selector and whatever else I can see might be amiss.
Adjust linkages as suggested and re-position rearsets (I have been purposely looking at other 6's, 10's linkage position).
Change oil to 7100 and filter.

Done:
Chain has been shortened 1 link and adjusted.
TTX and forks resprung/serviced/dialed in.
General check over.

First time I've heard one of those called something as polite as a cassette box!

sounds like a bent selector jon, not unusual for a track bike, see it all the time.

At Mc Park last weekend and the gearbox selection issues returned and finished the day off early.

It turns out I broke gear dogs off, selector drum is damaged, 1st, 3rd, 5th gears should be replaced and one fork shifter is bent. Parts $1k ex-japan 2 weeks.

I should have trusted my gut instinct weeks ago, but hey there ya go
Checked valve shims while we were at it, all good.

If worse comes to worse I have a spare box, in a half munted engine
