cam chain runs from the crank to your cams, so yes bottom to top. mainly head noise but a severly flogged one could be making bottom end noise..
what i find wierd is that the noise goes when the fan kicks in???? is this as soon as it comes on? or a few seconds??
is it the noise of the fan overpowering the knock? may be the water pump........
anyone can go fast in a straight line,,,,

Bike still running well and knocking noise occurs after bike warms up...continues whilst in idle as well. If i ride for more than say 20 mins,,fans kicks in and noise suddenly gone..
Any feed back would be appreciated before i make any final decisions.
Cheers Greg
I had the same thing on my Yamaha FZ1 when new (3000km) at idle it had a knocking noise and when high beam or heated grips were on the the generator was under load and noise disappeared
ended up being whiplash play in the generator drive gears they were replaced under warranty and have been fine ever since
Yamasaki/Kawaha owner... after my bike was raped overnight in the garage at PI by those big green monsters
water pump ......hmmmmm - this is definitely worth checking out, and not hard to do either. It's on that side that the video was taken from , and its only a matter of a few bolts and a replacement gasket if it's not ??
".....shut the gate on this one Maxie......it's the ducks guts !!............."
me thinks (the more I watch that) either the impellor on the water pump
is a loose or the pump runout is shit (or the bearing is dying)
there really isnt much else on that side of the engine
and so can you do a simple check...
does the noise stop/change/increase when the thermostat opens
and water starts circulating properly? (yeah water pump again)
