Re: need to chose a helmet
Ahh the helmet debate.
I don't have a real lot to add, only that (like everyone else has said) you should go for whatever one fits your head.I know a couple of the guys don't like the KBC's but Chris has the one that you've got there and he's pretty happy with it. I don't think the Visor locks down well enough but he hasn't had any problems with it. I've got a Shoei or Arai head though and the KBC grips my forehead something severe.
I've currently got a Shoei that's nearly about to be replaced and it's been a sensational helmet. I'll either go for another Shoei or an Arai. I love Arais but I haven't had one for a lot of years. I used to have an AGV head but they changed their sizing and now can't get one to fit.

Their gear is usually pretty old too. Most of it will have a manufactured date of 1-2 years ago, not that there is a major problem with that although some may argue the polystyrene lining would have deteriorated a little (don't know if that's true or BS)matchan wrote:Hi Owen, my last two Shoei helmets have come from Helmet warehouse, but, they tend to buys shitloads of a few designs, if you like that design then they are a pretty good price, but if you don't there is not much other choice and in my experience they're not negotiable at all on price of their other stock, and it's a long way to go from the northside.robracer wrote:Mate just get in there & try em all on....... I did this & walked away with an AGV after the last 3 road helmets were shoei.
Whatever you do... do not go to the helmet wareh0use...... talk about shonky & crap stock

That's why their prices are ok... it is usually superseeded stock, not the latest model in colours and designs that's allGlen wrote:Their gear is usually pretty old too. Re: need to chose a helmet
thanks for all the input guys, ive narrowed it down to the shark or the AGV K3 or K4, will be trying these on and seeing what i think about them first hand.
If none of them fit i guess ill give the shoei a go
All the Arais i can see arent even close to my budget so wont be trying them on.

Re: need to chose a helmet
well it turns out i dont have an AGV head, tried on the large size and while it was comfy, i felt it pressed down on the top of my head a bit, and visibility while tucked in on pauls bike was almost 0 without causing permanent damage to my neck. Tried the medium and it was way too small, so no in between
Decided on the Shark RSI D-Tone with a tinted visor. Also tried on a shoei, man it was sex for my head, but the pocket was burning as i thought about buying it...
Thanks paul for haggling the price

Re: need to chose a helmet
Will be interesting to see your opinion once you ride in it too Owen....I was on a budget when I bought my HJC and felt comfortable enough in the shop even after coming of a Shoei....But the bloody thing whistles when I ride I have 3 visor's for it and they all do it
...I'm thinking it may have something to do with the seating position on the Zed
....Have been thinking about getting one of the Shoei duel sport helmet's myself....Would be good if you actually got to ride in one first

Re: need to chose a helmet
I bet you got a CL-15. mine did it too. best way to fix that is to go flying over your handle bars and crash land on your head.

Re: need to chose a helmet
Fit is the most important thing. A loose helmet will kill you in a crash. My last crash, I had an HJC, I landed on my head at 82 MPH, it saved my ass, (actually my head). The new helmet I bought was a Shoei, and only because of the fit, (I have a fat head and a small dick). Anyhow the fit on your head is important. have a Jim Beam and sit on it for a night.

Re: need to chose a helmet
Well after all was said and done I endend up getting a shoei TZR. Paid an extra $70 but after I put the shark back on to compare it was chalk and cheese.
Tested it out and it fits very well, presses a bit on the face and for some reason my ear but I'm sure that will settle when the padding settles. Wind noise is very low and the vent are very good.
Now I just need a bike!

Re: need to chose a helmet
I have a'"Korean Bike Company'"helmet and I find it quiet and comfortable. Tracey wears a shoei..which I find is very uncomfotable and noisy.Joel wears a Texas holdem shark..great helmet..I think it all comes down to comfort, dollars and look. All helmets have to have an australian standard,so as far as safety is concerned they will all be up to scratch. I'm sure there is some people out there that have to have all the expensive gear on before they even leave the garage..But I think it comes down to what is comfortable for you..Good luck mate..
