So basically it IS running a copy of XP, but they are using the new version of RDP and sending the graphics and other stuff for the application *ONLY* back and forth between the virtual instance of XP and the "real" version of windows 7. if that makes sense.
Or even easier is use XPMode.

Which is essentially XP in a VPC environment.

Sometimes it seems that that doesn't quite cut it either unfortunately, which is why i guess they put that virtualpc/xp thing in place.

As a hardware tech of more than 10yrs experience....why a fuggin dell POS ???

lowest quality shit components a badge could shove in a box and sell......

some other facts..

* any 32bit OS can only use approx 3.5gb ram...limitation on available memory addresses
* most all modern cpu's are 64 bit capable
* windows 7 upgrade rights to windows xp is just that.. usually most laptops so endowed, come with an xp recovery cd/dvd as well as the vista service pack 3 ( joke ) recovery discs.
This allows you to setup / run the machine using XP as the OS if thats what your company, software, sensibilities etc need, want, desire....
* anyone wishing to talk about fuggin vista...wash your mouth out with soap. Best forgotten.......Windows ME 'II' anyone......
* windows 7 ultimate only adds Bitlocker ( data encryption/protection ) and the ability to switch between 35 different languages ( tits on a bull usefulness ) to Windows 7 Professional...is it worth the extra money ....you decide.
* if you are really honest, Windows 7 is nothing more than Vista service pack 3 or what vista SHOULD have been in the fist place...To my mind anyone foolish enough to have bought Vista should be given a free copy of Win 7 and a personal apology from Ballmer.
* if you currently have a fully functional xp box that does everything you need, migrating to Win 7 is just wasting money...I would sooner spend the $300 on my bike.

just my 2 cents.... :kuda:

Actually, I disagree.

Dell have picked up their act pretty well of late(i would know, i work in a completely dell environment)
Win 7 is actually a great improvement overall, it is to vista as winxp was to win ME. driver support is completely beside the point given that it is provided by dell with all drivers preinstalled.
I agree about the ultimate thing, just get professional.

bagging on the big companies is getting a little old in the IT game IMO (except microsoft and apple who actually deserve it most of the time)
this box will stand up to more than any standard user can throw at it without even breaking a sweat, and with the warranty and onsite support dell provides, its a pretty good way to buy.

Definately go Win7 64bit. Its what that box is designed for.
