Tires for 250R

There is a reason the skinny tyre is on that rim. It's not like car tyres that have a flat tread. When you fit a wider tyre to a bike you change the profile of the tyre which changes the way the bike and tyre perform. If you look at the picture above you can see that the skinny tyre has more angled sides than the wider tyre. You need those sides to be on that sort of angle to grip the road while you have the bike lent over going around a corner. If all you want to do is ride in straight lines then go ahead and fit the wider tyre but if you want it to go around corners you are better off leaving the skinny tyre on.

The factory tyres aren't great so just upgrade them, but use the same 110/70, 130/70 set up. You would want to keep the 250 nimble to tackle those twisties

Yeah, you will still get the same result as the picture above. Fitting a tyre two sizes bigger on any rim will change the characteristics and grip of that bike quite a bit.

I have the 130/70 17 Pirelli Sport Demon on the rear and it has performed exceptionally lately!! its very sticky when it gets hot and being a 130 the trye is a lot wider than the stock IRC "road losers" that the ninja 250 has on there stock... i didnt notice until it was on the bike...

If you want a good tyre either go for the BT45 or the Sport Demons

might seem like a bunch of dribble and not what you want to hear but what Nelso and Rob are saying is correct. i had a 170 on the back of my bike, ended up squaring the tyre out, and with about a 2-3cm chicken strip either side of the tyre. For the life of me i couldnt tip that bike into corners any harder than what my experience allowed.
Finally ditched it and i got a smaller, but the factory standard 160 on the back, right off the bat i could tip it in just by blowing on the handle bars, and chicken strips? dont exist any more!

If you are getting tyres for the look, to impress the ladies then hell, buy a 190 and stick it on there. If you want more grip and want to enjoy riding and push the bike to its limits then get the tyres Firey suggested in a factory standard size

Your better off keeping the same tyre profile and getting a better tyre then the OEM.

Pirelli sports demons are a reasonable tyre for road riding and last well with good grip. Haven't tried the Bridgestones but from most reports they are also a good sticky tyre. If your just changing the tyre profile cause it "looks cooler" then your doing it for all the wrong reasons. a) A 150 is not impressive b) All it will do is change the steering of the bike (probably for the worst).

Just get good sticky tyres and you will be amazed at the difference in feel you have without compromising the handling.

With regard to handling and tyres, don't forget tyre pressures as well, and the effect it has on the handling and feel of your bike.

I've had both BT45s and Sport Demons (like both a lot, BT45s probably my favourites), and I'd say go with either of these all the way mate, in the standard size!

Go for the pireeli sport demons they are way better tan stock, Got a flat a few weeks ago and oppted for the sprt demon, wears much more even and is a harder compund and its the same size as stock but looks bigger. Retails for around $140
