Definately is and a long way to go with your foot over the plate

The Sydney tunnels are full of camera's used by the RTA for road monitoring. Despite not being used for infringements big brother is watching

I don't think so. The chances of more bikers dying from accidents simply rises proportionally with the increased numbers of bikers on the road.

This one interests me - are you saying that the enforcement up in Qld is not reasonable ?? I can understand that, especially when the enforcement is directed towards that well-known safety measure - the enforcement of having the proper length rear mudguard fitted !!!! What an absolute f'n joke that is....

But the statistics don't paint a good picture of overall m/c related deaths in Qld .......they have skyrocketed.

IMO there wouldnt be so many bike fatalities if people in cars actually looked where they were going
most of us as riders know our limitations & know our bikes & ride to that level ive had my licence 12 months now & have almost been wiped out at least 17 times this year from people failing to give way to me or completely ignoring my existence on the road i mean im on a green bike that even at night is lit up like a farking christmas tree how can u not see me
Nothing in the world beats grippin the handlebars rippin the throttle & just soaring.
If there's any other source of pure freedom out there I have never seen it.

On the weekend, at the 6 Hour race at Oran Park, I saw 6 riders unload at speed - all of them got up and walked away from the crash.
Yes, they were all wearing the right gear to survive a crash on a race track.
Yes, there was no "road furniture " to run into.
Yes, there were no cages hitting them, either before or after the incident.

Just an observation. dontknow.gif

A couple of things - firstly thess stats have been read incorrectly by the tool head politician. There has also been an increase in car fatalities similar to the bikes, no mention about that, well done goose.

The assumption that cars take out bike riders is a myth. If you do some research on just about any road body (RTA in NSW) you actually find that majority of bike accidents are either single bike or bike at fault. We all like to think that we are better then we actually are (self preservation is ignored in many cases).

The problem with increasing the training and therefore the ability you have to have prior to passing ignores some fundamental problems with Australia generally. A licence is a right not a privilege at this point in time, it shouldn't be but unfortunately it is. The problem is we are a huge country that is spread out without supporting infrastructure to link us. If you raised the bar for licences you have several problems that will arise. 1) less people will get their licence, now this may seem like a good thing but there is a problem. If less people have licences then less people will be able to drive which will consume less petrol so in short all those people that were paying tax on fuel, registering vehicles and paying licence renewals will be gone. Less coin to go into the bucket. Now that people don't have licences how are they going to get to work, as everyone bought houses out in suburbia and said no public transport, have car no worries. Now they can't get to work via car so they have to catch public transport that a) doesn't exist and b) if it does actually costs the government money to operate it. Governments are struggling for coin now, what will happen when the car industry goes out the door as we are no longer buying vehicles, no point having a car or bike if you can't drive. The solution is not a simple one of improving training and raising the bar.

The problem is there is little research done on the actual cost by not raising the bar on licence tests, so the status quo will remain. Lower limits (dumbing down), increase enforcement, what else can they do. We have backed ourselves into a corner that would take a generation to get ourselves out of if we had the foresight. But being a resource rich country we can at the moment afford to be belligerent about this.

The reality is who of you is prepared to give up your "right" to a licence, if you raise the bar many won't cut the mustard.

 - gotta love the wallopers having a go at 'safety'.........but there is just no helping some drivers......

Try asking a firie, if the big yellow truck and flashing lights and sirens works 100% of the time...... :? - not on your life....

Even the local Big K dealership started providing every new bike buyer, a Hi-Vis vest as part of the deal a few years ago, after the very sad death of one of their sales guys just around the corner from work......I think that lasted about 18 months before it quietly faded away....

You could put a spinning disco ball and lights on top of your helmet - if the driver does not look, he will not see. That, will never change.....

Maybe it would be better to stop every cage, and give them a lecture about LOOKING for bikes !

I can understand changing from wet film to digital, but they're just being opportunistic in punting a speed camera in there too.
