AND 90% of the time, the 'No Helmets' sign is on the door to the shop. Which is horribly stupid of them, as they cannot put a condition of sale on AFTER the goods/services have been delivered. In theory, there is no reason why you cannot fuel up, walk to the door, decided that this was NOT part of the ORIGINAL condition of sale (ie there is nothing written on the pump) and simply leave.
its not a condition of sale, its a condition of entry.
Simply because you get the goods before you make the payment doesnt make it right to walk away if you decide you dont want to take your helmet off and refuse to accept the conditions of entry to the shop.

Do what I do and go to a servo where you can pay by eftpos at the bowser.

I wonder could you refuse to enter under the condition of having to remove your helmet and instead demand they come out to you to receive payment? That would be sweet.Lurch wrote:However in order to complete that sale, one must enter the shop - its catch-22.MrWasabi wrote:Lurch wrote:The 'its the law' is complete and utter BS.

I think it's stupid. I fill up with my lid on, then walk in to the store and the guy tells me to remove my helmet, what's the point? I mean I've walked in to the store got my wallet out to pay, it's not like I'm going to run so why waste our time to take it off? Unless they think you're going to rob the place, but then why would you have filled up and taken your wallet out.
It's just another way to hassle riders.
It's bullshit, if we've got to remove our helmets inside of stores etc, women of Islamic faith should have to too. Because if it's a legal thing and to do with identification, Religion shouldn't be able to jeapordise it.

filling up with bike on its side stand is so the stand earths out. and no chance of static sparks.
Same as filling a Jerry can, supposed to take it out of car and put in on the ground to fill.

Re: Have i been discriminated against because i wear a helmet??
After 12 months of using the same servo on a regular basis and being on friendly terms with all the staff. Helmet on or off.....yes i believe upon reflection of your comments, that are very relevant and to the point, with good reasoning and sound experience ..................it is my choice.
Thus i will be choosing another servo, that doesn't hassle good (paying) regulars, make difficult with many conditions or assume every customer is there to steal their fuel. One with an EFTPOS, no human interaction, just get my fuel, air and go!!
Yes, we live in different times nowadays and profit is very important
Maybe I'm just a nice guy and get my back up, offended, when people assume otherwise without knowing me. We live and learn.
Thank you for your insights and advice/counsel

Re: Have i been discriminated against because i wear a helmet??
I think it's just wrong! Really, most of us lot, look way better with our helmets on, so maybe leaving them on is a public service!
The servo I get fuel from mostly, was owned by an Italian guy who knew me and never needed my lid off to serve me. But, we had developed a bit of banter over the years and he recognised me on sight. Recently however, he sold the Fuel and shop to someone else. He now just runs his workshop off the side. The new owners don't know me. So, I just take off my lid. After fitting and removing helmets for over 20 years, I am sorta getting the hang of it and can do it within 3 or 4 seconds on most days.

Yes, the broken air gauge maybe is/was a sign. Maybe there is a higher intelligence looking out for me.I will be visiting another servo to check my tyre pressures very soon IE today. And thus find my new regular servo.
Spooky for me but see your reasoning, as tyre pressures are very important
Thanks

I had exactly the same problem! I pulled up in my WRX with my tinted windows and the guy wouldnt unlock the fuel because I had no license plates or registration on my car! What a bastard!

You are aware that tyre pressures should be checked when tyres are cold...flipper3au wrote:Thanks Maxi

I bought a cheap compressor from supersheap for about $100 and do pressures at home.

Re: Have i been discriminated against because i wear a helmet??
Seriously?
who cares if its law or not, its common courtesy and often there is a sign on the pole next to the pump saying to remove your helmet. how do they know that you arent going to go in there with your wallet out, then put it away and beat them to death, i know most of us arent like that, but if they cant identify you then naturally it will make them uncomfortable. given that you generally have to remove your helmet to enter and pay, is it really that hard to remove it before filling?
Just take your helmet off, its for piece of mind of the console operator, its not discrimination, it was a fair and simple request on his part, and by him asking you to do it, it became a condition of sale. Just stick to the servo you are a regular at and htfu
