Thought i had ficed the fookin thing but seems not.

Was out a jaunt today and was running fine sitting in the On position then i filled it to the brim and started out and got the same issues as before, now i know what to look for i caught it i time before it cut out lol.

Ran it for a bit in RES and swtiched it back after 150km's and it was fine. Filled it again and yep you've guessed it started again.

Looka like i'm going to be busy tomorow taking things off and checking them.

You should be getting around 270k or so before getting on reserve fuel though normally and maybe another 50k on reserve till your pushing it down the street... Do you set your trip meter each time you fill up?
Weird problem, a royal pain in the ass and i'm sure it messes with your head.

Just a thought...is it possible that the 'reserve' pipe which to my understanding is poking into the tank at around the 4L left over point.. is it possible that this pipe has been shoved deeper into the tank maybe so that it is sitting maybe a few litres from the top of the tank, or full level?

I hope this is understandable :), just a thought....

I understand what you mean but it just seems like a strange problem. Only garage that seems to run perfect from the off is Caltex. Will try mobil soon.

Regards mileage i've had 235 out of a tank before i had to switch over to reserve. I reset the trip meter every time i fill up so i can keep a track of what i'm using, and when i know to top up lol.

More investigating need done i reckon. Might get the carbs balanced and see if that helps. I also don't know if any mods have been done to the bike that would affect fuel economy.

I'd try to run the tank near empty then find a small camera and take pictures inside to see if you can see the hoses or try putting a small webcam/video inside or at the fuel opening to see what you can see...
I dont thinkits a carby problem if you can get 235 from the main tank, as I often get that too (we have the same bike, same year)

Check the fuel tank Venting hole too. This allows the air to equalise in the tank. If not, then you will get an air lock which may restrict or stop the fuel flowing. The vent is usually part of the fuel tank cap. As a tank expands in the heat, it allows air to escape so the tank doesn't exlpode from pressure or blow fuel in your face when you open the cap. also, as it cools or uses fuel and creates a need for more air in the tank, it allows air to be sucked back in.

Thanks for that m8.

I did replace the fuel cap but i didn't run it prior to doing it.

I'll swap it back out and see what happens.
