If you're listening to music, how can you hear the growl of the bike? Thats one of the reasons you put an aftermarket can on it after all. If you didn't want to hear the deep bass tones coming out of the exhaust, why spend all that money on getting one? The other reason I spose is power gain and smoothing out power delivery, but honestly, who here can use the extra power gained from it (except maybe 600 riders, who need it  ) not that its much? So the main reason is---->coz it sounds shit hot!!!![<b] Then you want to put on earphones to drown it out dontknow.gif bduh.gif thats just screwy. I think its also a bit dangerous, you can't hear whats going on around you or what your bike is doing. But then I'm probably too old and crochety for it these days

If I were to listen to music it'd have to be something that's gonna get me to focus and relax (not like when I used to crash to a soundtrack of metal in my youth).

If I had to choose something Wes Montgomery impro.

This is a long rant about nothing!!!!

Do you wear earplugs to stop wind noise? Are the people who do screwy as well?

Like earplugs, headphones can tone down the effects of wind noise and other loud repeatitive noises like a loud pipe to a more bearable level on long rides. It doesnt totally drown out a rides surrounding noises just like earplugs. On long rides i find this helpful.

But hey, what do i know i am just screwy....

Yes I do wear earplugs on long rides because, as you say, it tones down the fatiguing effects of monotonous noise. What they don't do,however, is redirect your concentration from the road or your surroundings. Unless you have a helmet the is VERY quiet, to properly hear music, you need to turn up the volume on a player to a level that precludes hearing almost anything else. This is especially dangerous in built up areas where it could mean the difference between missing a prang, and being in it. My last post wasn't a rant as you say, merely an observation into the reasoning behind putting a nice sounding exhaust on a bike. I, like some other people here, have the tone of my pipe as my ultimate riding music. You, like others here, prefer music over the sound of your bike. Big farking deal!!! I neither attacked anyone personnally, nor called anyone, including yourself, screwy. I merely put forward my observations.

I concur with all who say you shouldn't listen to music while riding (man I lucky if I can even ride properly yet, let alone listen to music) I was trying to think of a better way to label thread when started but it would have been to long, so I guess what I should have said in my first posted message was "if it was safe and you could listen to music while riding what would be your adrenaline music of choice", just a thread for fun, not to encourage, sorry.

No need to appologise Dizzi. Topics like these just go to show the diversity of peoples opinions, which, as the saying goes, are like arseholes.....everyones got one  . I just like to voice mine :D . So do most of the other people on this forum, which makes it so much fun. It would be a pretty boring place if the moderators censored a post every time someone had a difference of opinion. So, bring on the fun :kuda:

if it was not intended as an opinionated rant then it certainly came across as one without intension.

Maybe i will reserve my right to offer a different opinion with those who have experienced rather than those who comment on a sibject based based on assumptions.

Love the thread!

Given I can get lost in a cul-de-sac I listen to my GPS. At this stage I'm not confident enough to listen to music while riding - I'm concentrating on the riding and even the GPS and the other voices in my head can be a bit too much....

BUT - if I could - maybe Kylie with "Locomotion" or ABBA with "Dancing Queen"  .........(not bl**dy likely!) - Pink Floyd for me :kuda:
I don't like the term insane - I prefer mentally hilarious!
