It always sux falling off, but it sounds like you got off pretty lightly. You'll have it sorted and be back on the road in no time.

The old man just left, we're working on the electrical bits first. The cosmetics are already planned out, we have the tools so should be fairly simple to pretty it up. While I'm doing it though, can I get paint for the engine case from auto stores or do I need to get it specifically sprayed by a professional?

I am thinking of grinding the bottom 3 grills down to level them about and make a progressive angle to the top ones which are untouched. Then spray it black and take off the top of the grills with a grinder, polish and have the same effect as I have on the engine. Will most likely replicate on the other side to match. The electronics are going to get done on monday as the parents are off for holidays, we've got power going to the ignition, but obviously from that point on there's something wrong somewhere as it's not getting to the headlight, horn and turn signals. Will let everyone know how it pans out but I consider myself very lucky to get off so lightly.

Lucky it's a Kawasaki, I'm sure if I binned the R6 it would have caught on fire and exploded... :kuda:

Good to hear you walked away. As others have said it sucks to fall, but it could have been a lot worse.

Bugger...Was just admiring you bike the other week in another thread...With the headlight I noticed it isn't OEM,Is it not getting power or could it be something simple like a globe(just a thought)?Dos't sound like too much damage and hopefully you'll be back on the road in no time....

I'm with matt, it's bad news about the off but make it work for you now - thats what I did & couldnt be happier ;)

Ted383 is the man with the straps and horn relocator on the zrxoa.

I'm going to leave the horn where it is, especially because I have just used awesome bush mechanics to bend the bracket back to where it should be. The horn still works fine when hooked up to power and as I have the round headlight up front, I want to keep it as tidy as possible.

Bit of an update:

horn and indicators are back online. both are working now.

Headlight is still being problematic, it looks like the headlight relay has given out as it's receiving power, receiving power from the junction box (via brown wire) but not returning anything to the junction box (via yellow wire).

Going to let the old man test out the headlight relay, however I suspect that it's pretty farked. The little bastards also cost $160.... :x

Seriously? Fark me. If it is rooted let me know what the part number is and I'll see if one of the ones I've pulled of a trackbike will work for you for a shitload less than that.

Apparently it's a 4-6 week wait on the part...Now honestly it isn't a bloody European bike so what gives?! :shock:

I'm not exactly sure of the part number, It does however look like a ZX9R (94-> and 2000-2001) fuel pump relay. It's a little black box with a red 4 pin connector in one corner.

Some numbers are worn out but the last 3 of a series is '08A'
There's also '4.3' on it and below it has '191'
The resistance between pin 3 and 4 is meant to be 1-5 k(ohm), 3 and 2 is meant to be 10-100, 4 and 2 is 20-200.

I've asked the local kwaka shop to give kawasaki a ring and find out the specs on the zx9r fuel pump relay as it costs $50 and if it's the same it may work. Failing that I will ask for the part number and post it up. $160 and 4-6 weeks is just dumb. Here is the picture from the service manual though, maybe it helps a bit:

Bugger - the rex uses a headlight relay that's almost unique to the zxr lineage (only other use was on a Zephyr 1100). It does look a lot like the fuel-pump relay from a 9 - you could be lucky. Sorry dude.

There are a lot of similar looking relays, but I think Dave is right in saying its pretty unique. The part # is 27002-1078 and going by Ronayers it should only cost about USD43.

Ok, the part is on it's way down.

The guy rang Kawasaki in SYD to ask for the internal resistance of the ZX9R Fuel Pump Relay. It's exactly the same as the ZRX Headlight Relay. It has ended up costing $50.52 so am more than happy to wait until tuesday for it to get here. Fark that $160 shit. 8)

Will report whether it was a total success or complete failure. :D
