Re: I've been screwed :)
Old guy alert!!!!!!
Sorry for the long reply too, NOT
Yes impressive hardware indeed and déjà-vu for me to see that, it is unfortunate you have it at all Soundguy, still that’s way better than external fixtures hanging out there in the breeze for every infectious bug to enter into.
I hade both my tib/fib & right fem' smashed, cruched lumber vertibrae, facial and forhead/nose breaks, minor stuff to numerous to bother mentioning, I had titanium plates simular to yours but mine had about 24 screws on the right and 14 on the left side, I also had a "k"nail femoral rod in my right side, much more damage around my body from a Mitsubishi NotSoSqueezy Canter turning into a VerySqueezySardineCan. I had all the hardware removed Jan 2002 after 1 year flat on my back and the next year getting things redone, repaired, cut and straightend, and grafted, then I got Golden staff in both lower legs whilst in Hervey Bay, and a certain Dr Death (currently in the USA) wanted to transfer me to his butcher shop and chop ‘em off just like that!
No fear, 2nd opinion said keep them mate, luckily it hadn’t spread into the bones themselves.
Yeah, so make sure your wounds are clean, insist the nurses use proper dressing procedures and dressings (i.e. washed hands and new gloves without scratchin their or someone elses noses/asses before touching you), hospitals are the worst places to pick up bugs.
Any little infection can and will have your legs up for removal mate, so be very aware and ask many questions
Where are u at with recovery/physio?
Full weight bearing yet, crutches, learning to walk again?
Bones gelling up by the looks of it and setting cleanly, this is good!
Back on the bike in no time
(whatever u do don't be tempted to try and break any of that Titanium hardware if/when it is removed, I nearly wore the hammer I used to try and see if a screw would bend in the vice, still an interesting party trick at the time
)
Ok I have gone on about this way to long now so c ya and I hope your body repairs itself real soon.

Na that wont set the sensors off, I had more than that in me and that never happened, but I know where you are at with it Soundguy, I know your pain. (Must look for my x-rays) If the sensors actually do pick it up a quick drop of ya pants and that’s enough to convince them of where the hardware isty wrote: Impressive hardware there, though I can tell you it'll depend on the sensitivity of the sensors at the airport as to whether you'll set them off. I was dissappointed/surprised that my femural nail didn't set any of on a trip to the states.
A trip to the UK may be different

Re: I've been screwed :)
Thanks for the encouraging words everyone.
Jonno,
Mate, sounds like you had a few more breaks than me and a few too many close calls
but good to hear that you healed up well and you go back on the bike etc etc.
i'm out of that hell hole ( hospital ) now so i'm feeling a little better and safer, but i know what you mean about being careful and all that.
Along with the leg injuries i also broke my little finger on the right hand, and even though they took Xrays after i complained about them not doing anything.. they just worked on my leg and released me withought fixing my finger.
Now i have to go to yet another specialist to see if my finger can be fixed because i cannot bend the bloody thing
How am i doing with recovery?? well at the moment its more of a mental battle than anything else.
The ankle is in a cast ( 5 weeks to go- 12 weeks total) non weight baring.
The knee wound has/is healing but i've only got about 30% movement in it for now.
I've been told that the broken bone in the ankle is healing, but as expected its also dying!! therefore i'll have many complications like antheritis or it might even become brittle and break easily, but what would they know right??
Once the cast comes off, i guess i'll have to go through rehab/physio the whole lot so we'll see how i go.
I asked about the screws and stuff and they told me that they stay in there forever, unless there are complications or they bother me
On top of everything else that i've lost, as of last week, i was made redundant from work ( gutless prick rang me while i was in hospital and told me ), so now i'm also jobless and have to start from zero all over again
So...... i'm doing my best not to crack and stay positive and hopefully i'll catch a break soon

Long fat stretch of gravel in the middle of a nice left hand corner on the old road is what happened

Thats a sad story Fred, but look at it this way, it could have been so much worse. Heal up bud and everything will be back to normal very soon. remenber if u dont crash means u are not riding hard enough
been there also.

I've been done by the hand wand and walk through metal detectors. I was quite dissappointed when I couldn't get any of them to bleep.
