I think you are right Brett- poor little bike wants to be ridden like it's stolen instead of like it has a loan and no insurance on it!

So far it has only played up once, I have't had the same thing happen again.

A friend of mine with a K6 assures me though that hers did the same and it will only get worse. (Not exactly sure what the issue was with hers but it has taken 5 months for her to try and get it fixed as a warranty problem. )

It is almost due for it's 6000km service, so if it doesn't happen again in the meantime I am going to take it to Alex at LAE for it's service and have it put on the Dyno. There is talk around here of getting a PC3 for it.

It actually is insured and doesn't have a loan attached to it, so if it keeps giving me grief I'll leave it at your doorstep so you can steal it and I'll get myself that ZX10!

Update- it happened again yesterday!

Piked on the big ride because I was afraid of getting stuck somewhere with all my warning light blarring at me, so I went for a little blat locally.

No problem while riding, but got home turned it off, turned it on again and the same thing happened!

Did a google search- pages and pages on this particular problem. I found some info on a GSXR forum that seems to sum up exactly how a mechanic explained it to my friend-

'There is a problem with all K6 and K7 GSXR 600 & 750. After a while they start alternating the FI light with the temp. It's a problem with one of the valves inside the exhaust. It doesn't stay straight in the exact position, the bike detects it and it gives you the FI warning. It's just a millimetre and you can still ride, but it starts showing the FI more and more often.'
At least I am armed with some knowlege now so that they can't fob me off- it is a known problem with them. When my friend took hers back they told her they would disconnect something so that the light didn't come on anymore! Sheesh!

I have also been told that it is caused by the same valve in the exhaust sticking open. One solution was to hone out the bush?

I guess a complete new exhaust system may help!

hey,
i would have them same problem with my cbr600rr if i changed exhaust because you have to disconnect the wires to the "valve" cause in the aftermarket systems its not there.
with my bike when its disconnected the light will stay on, you have to go to honda and get them to alter something in the wiring totally bypassing it (probably just looping the wires).
so if they just bypass it when you change your exhaust over is it really that important? lolz
how much do you like your stock system? hehe
or just get the shop to disconnect cause i can imagine how annoying the light coming on would be hehe

Once you get off the bike for long enough that can be done fairly easily with little $$ cost at all other than time and a few anxious moments from you

As far as a full new zorst system? Yes maybe, and a pc3, decent air filters and a dyno tune = $$$$

But you have to ask yourself;
Do I currently ride this bike to its potential? probably not on the road although those kishy strips have gone away nicely
Is a few grand ok for the bling factor? I know you can afford it and want it but will you?
Do I need that much performance? I would
Will this value add for resale? not a great deal if any
What is better value? fix the sticky valve, install a PC3, filters, maybe a nice slip on can that doesn’t attract the law (or me waking at 6am)and a tune

I can give you the (detailed calm instructional) spanner time to fit it all to save $$$ at LAE, so whatya reckon?

1.You answered that one- there are no chicken strips on the bike.

2.I have a bling list as long as my arm. Bling is priceless!

3.Who said anything about 'need'?? Now 'want', 'desire''- they are words that should be used in the same sentence as 'bike.'

I'd have to check on yours but on the 10 (you know you want it!!) there is a similar zorst valve which is removed when you put the aftermarket cans on..

On mine , the valve is operated by a servo motor located under the seat and connected to said exhaust valve via control cables..

On the 06-07 10 it's siply a matter of removing the valve assembly and disconnecting the two actuator cables. The servo still operates and sends the appropriate feedback to the ECU but no valve....easy

I'm sure if yours is a similar system it would be a simple matter of doing the same thing and disabling the valve into the fully open position / removing the butterfly (whichever the case may be).
You normally find without the valve operating she'll tend to be a bit less flexible in the rev range particularly on a 600 but a bit more responsive higher up in the RPM range.

The cheapest aftermarket jobbie I could find for your's at a glance is bout $850.00 (Yoshi shorty) plus postage , so fair bit of coin for a little bit of gain..

What you are describing on the 10 sounds exactly like what the dealer wanted to do on my friends Gixxer to fix the issue, so they must be similar.

Funny I was looking at a Yoshi last night- very nice! I also like the Micron. I am not seriously considering getting a new exhaust to fix the issue though- I would just love a new pipe. I REALLY miss the sound of my Two Brothers exhaust on the ER6 (even though it was WAY too loud.)
