Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
2 mornings a week in the gym on a 3 week rotating pattern (norm Tue & Thur) - 3 weeks strenght, 3 weeks speed.
2 evenings sprint training on the bikes
Track training Wed eve and Sat morning
Racing every other Sunday - on the bikes playing on the Sundays we don't race.
I've just started racing 20" bmx as well as the 24" cruiser. So instead of 4 races and a final on race day, I'm now doing 8 races and 2 finals. Did this for the first time yesterday, and got 2nd place for both.
Am considering 2 mornings a week jogging as I want to lose a couple of Kg, and none of my present excercises are aerobic enough to burn much fat.

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
well being a metal tradie i dont need to go to the gym, try standing up for 10-12 hours a day in the middle of summer in a 40+c factory out in the western suburbs, welding in a leather jacket and hood, in confined spaces, beleve me you sweat and loose weight, and if your boss thinks your some kind of human fork lift ( yes ive worked for those bosses) theres your workout set arms, chest, legs ,so after work you dont feel like or need to go to the gym, just lift cans of VB, LOL

IF IT AIN'T A ZX YOU WONT BE NEED'N MIRRORS 2 C ME....... Z BOY FOR LIFE.

I did Karate for 5 years - black belt instructor, brown belt in weapons.
Trained 5 times a week, taught 2.
My accidents put an end to all that for a while.... just getting into physio-chaperoned gym work now.

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
Depends on the season but before the last crash it was:
Summer: Touch rugby Mon and Wed nights. Oztag Tue night. Gym six nights a week. Sprint training
Winter: Sprint training four nights and two mornings a week at NSW institute of sport. Rugby training Tue and Thur nights and game on Sat.
Can't wait to be able to run again after the op!

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
well after a few years of being an uber lazy bastardos.... and allowing the Mono-ab to become strong and rule my pants.... when overseas recently i decided to lose the lard......
So at the moment, 3/4 Gym sessions a week... when I am not working night shifts... i ride to work and back which is a 40km round trip..... I also have started back in footy training as of last week...
But the main thing is watch what the hell you eat.... diet is 90% of the effort done.. exercise will only sort out the last 10%..... I still eat shit food now and then..... mainly chocolate.....that sweet goodness is my kryptonite
But I try and maintain a reasonably low carb eating habit.... in the last 6 months or so i lost about 16 kg, and even when i took 5 weeks off exercise due to holidays etc, i maintained my weight.... just lost a bit of strength..... I am not stopping until i finally eradicate the keg and have my 6 pack back
and no i don't mean beer......
The kick starter for me was that I saw a Photo that had a bit of a side on profile... and i thought, shit fat man you are only 30.... and that is crap.... you need to grab hold of your health and diet etc and sort your shit out so you can spend quality time with the kids..... and not worry about the impending heart attack
SO i went from 88.5 kg's down to 73... my weight loss has pretty much plateau'd however.... i am not too fussed about weight at the moment, and more interested at measurements now.... I will probably ramp up the cardio a bit more to drop 3 or so more kg's but that will be as bout as light as i will go... and focus on getting some decent strength back

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
id have to dispute the diet percentages argument.
when i was riding 700-800kms a week i would eat and eat and eat anything and everything. couldnt get my weight over 72kgs.
backed the kms off to 400ish and my weight went up with no change to my diet.
if youre really flogging yourself id say diet doesnt matter anywhere near as much.

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
It depends on why you are exercising as to what you should eat. If you are trying to lose weight all you need to do is start doing something you weren't doing before (like running or swimming or whatever) and things will change. If you start exercising and dieting simultaneously the changes will be more dramatic however.
I train to PUT ON weight as I have always wanted to be bigger. This is FAR harder than losing weight I can assure you, it is easy to speed up your metabolism (just start running) but it is almost impossible to slow it down unless you become a sloth and this isn't the type of weight you want to put on anyway! Lean muscle is a lot of work to get and even harder to hang on to. Its a lot of training and a lot of eating of protein based meals which gets tiresome very quickly.

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
Hmmm i was meaning more on the lose weight side of things which is i guess generally why a lot of ppl, including my tubby butt, start training or resuming training....... and as the Flymonster said, it can be very hard to build decent lean muscle mass once you hit the plateau .....98ninja wrote:id have to dispute the diet percentages argument.

I found it hard to motivate myself for any substantial excercise after my third ankle reco.... prior to that I was training in some capacity 6 days a week and what i would class as pretty damn fit.... but after it all turned to poo for the third time.. i had some serious motivation issues to get back into it... and unfortunately continued eating way too much

Re: Exercise.. what do you do?
when i was with the clearance diving branch we were doing 3 x 1 hour sessions a day.
1 hour of running
1 hour of swimming
and you were encouraged to take part in some form of weight training after hours.
went from 84kgs to 94kgs. id have to say i was leaner at 94 kgs than i was at 84kgs.
its a bastard to try and lose now. back to lots of cardio and no weight training ( still sets of pushups and chinups).
and the 50 hours a week at work and girlfriend make it nice to find time for all of this too.
hovering around 89-90kgs
