The only time being hit in the face by a bird is funny...

Marty Craggill had an almost career ending interaction with a sea bird of some sort, during a race in @ 1995/6/7. His shoulder ended up behind his head. It took surgeons months to sort him out and at one stage he had no feeling in his lower arm or hand. Apparently accupuncture was what fixed it??? But it was ugly. I am not sure of the mathematics, but one of the boffins mught know how weight and speed effect impact????

There are really only two questions in life. 1.Which way do i go? 2.What is the lap record?

I'm no boffin, but momentum = mass x velocity

Also one should take into account the pressure of the impact, ie something small or pointy will do a lot more damage than something flat given the same momentum.

Correct. P = mv, where P is measured in Newtons (Kg m/s), m in kg an v in m/s
If the bird weighed 2 kg and the rider was travelling at 54kph , the force exerted would be 30 Newtons, all delivered through whatever contact patch the bird covered. this is a hell of an impact! It would be like somebody throwing a 1kg wheat bag at your head at 30m/s .....

Hence my previous - somewhat flippant - question about visors and birdstrike.
