I agree with SW, they should wipe down tyres when fitted, fark they charge enough for em !! ...those tyres looked really greasy, more than usual.. it's like he hit oil or something?

In fact I should search my vids as I have a similar vid of me leaving the hotel (on bike cam) early in the morning at Taupo heading to the track when it was very cold. I pulled out onto the road over some dreaded painted medium lines when it just 'let go' under very mild acceleration. Gave me a hell of a fright as it skipped out then came back in line. I would say the fact that I didn't bin was nothing to do with 'skill' or 'experience' merely lucky that I wasn't on more of a lean. It could happen to anyone. That vid looks like it is in Europe somewhere (Switzerland I'm guessing) in winter....bad combo...new tires, new bike cold tires and cold road....DOH!

It seemed very gentle and no doubt surprising to the rider. It was not like he gave it even a moderate twist to cause this.

1. New tyres are slippery due to the mould release applied to them - it allows them to be released from the mould the are made in and it acts as a preservative whilst in transit and storage. Given this all it takes is a wipe down with prepsol or similar to remove it before riding on them. Or incredibly gentle and judicial use of the throttle. 2. I hope that this rider had an agreement in place with his insurance company before riding away from the dealership

CRAP FACT # 1
CATEGORICALLY!!!!!! NO MOTORCYCLE TYRE MANUFACTURER USES A "MOULD RELEASE COMPOUND" which makes the tyre slippery!
It does however, have a coating to pretect it from Perishing while sitting on a shelf! This, combined with the fact that the tyre is a very smooth (read slippery) surface to begin with!

CRAP FACT # 2
Rubbing Prepwash or similiar does not make the tyre any more grippy to begin with!

Be smooth, take it easy on the throttle. Rock the bike side to side till al;l the slippery shit is worn off and then hit it!

I have never, ever, ever piffed a bike on new tyres, and I have had a few new tyres as you know! I have however, saved several slips, some worse, some not so worse than what was shown on that vid. It was a simple case off throttle and lean angle on new tyres. Silly mistake, but certainly savable!

You asked what I would have done in that situation SW???? 1. Don't shut the throttle! 2. opposite lock the bars 3. keep slight throttle and ride it through like a dirt bike! No biggie at all SW, and if you cannot do this, best you go and buy a dirt bike and start learning before you go racing!!!!

Strika you dont believe in tyre prep?

I have used a prep solution for many years on new slicks & proddy tyres & it does work!..... basically it takes the shine off the new tyre & other muck such as the lube used to fit the tyre (it uses some type of solvent) this preperation is enough to ride on for 1 lap before giving it the berries, I have had many race starts on new tyres but wouldnt do it on un prepped tyres. The stuff I use (cant remember the name) is specifically designed for this use, where as prepsol is more generalised & not specifically for use on tyres.... more the sign industry

Hoffy I agree with you, the shop should go to the trouble with the pre delivery of preping the tyres, it only takes 1 minuite & does not have to be done just before riding so they could do it any time before handing it over.
+ dont tell the rider it has been done just tell them the tyres will be slipery first off then they will still be cautious

What it sounds like you are most likely using is a type of "traction Compound" RR! Which is not a prepwash! If I am guessing correctly, it's similiar to the stuff that the kart guys use on there tyres. The way I look at it Rob, is if it were that good, Casey and the boys would be using it

I'll stick to scrubbing mine in until someone (maybe myth busters could do it???) can show me some facts rather than it feels better!
