Bridgestone 003's is a track oriented tyre that is DOT approved so it can be used on the road, but, as others have mentioned they are very slippery in the wet. They also need to be pushed hard on the road to get the temperature into them and they have limited heat cycles compared to a street tyre.

If you only ever ride in the dry and use your tyre from edge to edge (no chicken strips) and push your tyres hard all the time, then they will be ok to run on the road. But, if you ride in damp or wet conditions, or can't use a street tyre to it's full potential (not many people can on the road), then you are better off with a street tyre like an 016.

Nothing cracks me up more than seeing a super sticky tyre on a road bike with huge chicken strips.

Done lookin for new hoops fella's, ending up getting a pair of 003's from Jake Wilson (USA) and saved myself $250 !!

The best result other than the extra dollars in the pocket is these hoops are formidably forgiving on the edges giving you advanced street cred...... Chicken strips are instantly replaced by streaks of molten rubber and grapes hanging off the edge of the rear whilst nailing your knee down on the roads and not just the track !!
But as Nelso advised previously, make sure you warm them up beforehand !!

I found the BT003's, BT016's and BT023's, I got from the States did not last as long as the locally purchased ones.
I asked the question and was advised that Bridgestone make tyres to a price and to a standard for different markets.
The Yanks want cheap tyres, so Bridgestone accommodate them. Apparently there is a European Standard and a US Standard. I no longer buy US tyres.

Hey Juggy, they were no drama at all. I booked it all on line, paid by credit card and they delivered them to my doorstep in Perth ! As with most US sites they also offer you online tracking service to see where your delivery is. I continue to use them and another lot for my Jet ski called Motorcycle Goodies and there's never any drama and I save loadsa ca$h. Enjoy !

Pro would be race Tyres I would assume.
Road legal but designed for warmers and less heat cycles.

Sorry Juggy, didn't really do the mileage as my bike was more a show bike and have regrettably sold it a month ago. Super soft hoops never last long anyway but at that price who gives a shit !

I raced on the 003 [soft] tyre & found them great. Much the same as the corsa SC1,2,&3 & the Dunlop 211.
I just fitted a set of 003RS to my road bike & am really happy with them. The RS is a road focused tyre that you can do track days on because they don't need warmers & have road type heat cycles. Yes I would agree that they might not be great in the wet, but in the dry they are superb. No chicken strips on mine. Then again I'm only a fine weather rider, so I don't care if they are a bit under-par in wet conditions.
As far as getting heat into them, all you need do is drop the pressure a couple of psi & they heat up well.
The next set I'll get will be the BT016 pro, again its a step up in performance from the standard 016, & more road & weather friendly. http://www.bridgestone.com/products/mot ... 16pro.html

yeah the 003's will be to tracky for me since I commute as well so need the wet grip. After looking around I've found the 016 pro's are the next gen of the 016's. Now the 016 pros have just been replaced by the S20's. What I've read so far the S20's heat better in cold conditions during road use, offer more grip in the wet weather overall, but especially wet weather edge grip has been improved alot. Bridgestone claim they last longer as well, but reviews I've read say they are on par with the 016 pros still.
