i was gunna suggest a loose connection..its always the simplest thing tho...

being the battery is under the seat, often riding the bike, with a riders weight and all the other shit combined, can cause the leads to move if not tight...it sounded like a loose wire, and not a battery problem neway...hehe

......The problem was that the contact on one of the battery terminals was loose. Once tightened, it powers up and kicks over every time as before.......

well thats good, you sorted it out......loose battery terminals can be a right pain in the coight....

Here is another tip for electrical problems of a simliar nature........Always check the earth lead at the end bolted into the frame/motor. Sometimes these also cause problems. Give the bolt a spray with Wizards Piss (WD), then loosen and re-tighten the earth lead.

Clean your battery terminals with a soltion of bi-carb of soda, scrub them with a toothbrush and all the white corrosion will be removed.

Use vaseline on the terminals to prevent build-up of new corrosion.
