Actually it's to use the rear brake to control the height of wheelies when standing on the rear pegs or 12 bar and for other assorted tricks. The rear brake foot lever still works, but there's another cylinder on the left 'bar to operate the brake as well

Should they remove it for specific tricks? What if you want to do a stoppie followed by a wheelie, fumbling around in your tank bag for that spare lever might take some time...

yep, and he has the clutch lever fully in, not the rear brake lever....
The trick of a second lever on the LH bar, acting as a rear brake, is the *only* way that stunters can do those really long stand-up wheelies, feet off the pegs etc etc.......
".....shut the gate on this one Maxie......it's the ducks guts !!............."
i can show u a vid of a sydney boy named JB from cunningstunts...
he was doing a spreader wheelie (sitting on the tank with legs spread like a tart) before he put the "handbrake" on his gix..he flipped it and was lucky not to break his back...
they made him promise not to do em till he fitted the handbrake...
and ...since when standing up on the 12 o'clock bar ur hands move around the bars, the handbrake is ussually down lower... also its USSUALLY short too...
and for a bit more of a lesson, some of the guys actually mount a 2nd rear calliper OPPOSITE the original... (mostly gixxers) ..so they have a FULL system (mastercyl, caliper) for each brake, with different compound pads and braking force etc (often leaving a bubble in the line so they dont lock the brake)...
shit where have i been!! haven`t been taking notice of the advancements in stunting lately.
i`m just a standard wheely bloke, up and down when i feel like and thats it!

As for using the rear brake while performing a stoppie. By locking the rear wheel whilst it is in the air causes the rear of the bike to kick up higher due to the inertia of the rear wheel being suddenly stopped.
I got a sweater for my birthday. I realy wanted a moaner or a screamer.

also stops chain slap as u put it down...a free spinning wheel means a free spinning chain...
but i was always advised "keep ya foot off the brake" cos it actually picks up better if the wheel is rolling- its when ur coasting on the front wheel that u wanna stop the back spinning..not bloody easy!!
