i was about 3, in 1986, rode may dads big fuggoff bike and side car down a hill to the lavender farms, i was steering from the tank :)

dooes that count??

i did try to killa family friend doing a river crossinf on his cb1100, once again sitting on the tank (on a snowy rally) but his time i had my hand on the throttle, bike go vroom through river! we survived, thanks to the quick thinking of my "co-pilot" haha

my 1st ride on my own, was a PeeWee 50, when i was about 3 and a half, rode through nanna's back fence, she yelled at my dad, saying he was an ass for making me ride it on my own!

and she still tells me to be careful

It was 1990, i was 15, a mate who was 16 had brought a beaten up old B120 and he let me take it for a ride ( i had my drivers licence so sorting out gears was easy) I fanged it off down the road in my school uniform shorts and shirt reaching speeds of 70-75....much faster than my push bike.

Took me months to grift a ride on someone elses bike....and dad forbid me from owning one.

My first ever ride was on a mates Yamaha DT50 (mid 70's model), it was stripped of all road bits, had an 80 kit and pulled great wheelies.

For my first ride I was 12 and we were in the local woods. After a quick lesson of controls I was off. Gear changes were easy enough and steering in the mud was also Ok. I reached the end of the path and attempted to turn round. This was where I hit my first snag; as I turned, the bike slid into a shallow ditch and stalled. I couldn't start it due to the lean angle in the ditch (kick start too close to the bank), and I couldn't push it out of the ditch. Eventually the owner turned up and pushed it easilly out, as it had been in gear when I was trying to push it

Second bike I rode was in similar condition to the Dt, but was a Honda XL250 - the old one with metal guards. It had a damaged oil seal in the gearbox and used to leave a smoke screen in thrid gear. From there I rode my first ever Kwak, a KE175 also with full dirt mods.
After that I got into motocross and have rarely been without since.

First rode bike was a FZX750, similar to the FZ750 but with V-Max styling. I owned this from 96 to 03, sometimes as a second bike. My first road Kwak was a GT550 which got t-boned after a month of ownership. I used the insurance money to buy an 87 CBR600. It snowed on the ride home from the dealer, and the bike was t-boned by a 4*4 six months later.

1. Peewee 80 around 1988 kicking around the back yard of a mates house

2. XT250 around 1994, when my mate bought it and tried to teach me how to ride out in an abandoned quarry... I ended up going over the bars

Yaaaay !! That's what I'm talking about, thanks guys, Loved reading all the stories, I love bikes but love hearing stories even more !

I would reply to all the posts, but did'nt expect such a cool response (So many !)

Took me 30 mins to read through them all, got some great mental pictures...

I used to think that blokes on bikes were mad when I was a young kid, thinking that it was far better to be out of the weather in a car, with the stereo going and protected from the elements .... Glad I got the bike bug 8)

You know what, it's funny that a lot of blokes on this forum and everywhere else, have some top notch machinery now, but the rat shit old dungers seem to bring back the fondest memories.

Does'nt matter what you ride, as long as you get the experience you are looking for I reckon ....

Me and my bike (ZXR250, or ZX2R call it what you will), shall be doing the Sydney CBD commute daily, in all conditions, I want to get out and experience the good and the bad of riding, just hope I am paranoid enough to always check intersections, painted lines, gravel, manholes, taxis, volvos, buses etc !!! (You get my drift).

Thanks for the memories, looking forward to catching up with some of you for a ride and a yarn or two :D

Was talking to some blokes in the city with bikes, and they are telling me I will have to be there for before 07:15 to get a park though !!

Anyone else ride into the Sydney CBD, and is this true ??!!

only 10 inches, huh? it's ok, it's not the size, it's what you do with it that counts...

peewee 50 when I was but a little lass, daddy didn't explain to his littlest how the throttle worked, so I'm gripping harder and harder and going faster and faster  got a taste for it, rode a 100cc yammy dirt squirter, then a zzr250 15-odd years later, then a zx6r, now a zx12r... seems I have green blood, tried the rest, kwaka proved the best :D -J.

"Whens your Dad & his mates coming to fix me Flippin' fence & Your Dads still an ass"

I did a Froggy on some kids 80cc dirtbike. thank god for fences some of these kids could get themselves hurt.

First real bike doubled home on a Brand spankie 80' gsx250ES nail. read the manual about how to go round corners, Next day got an old bloke to help me get it out of the gutter then proceded to ride (unlicenced) 260 kms to "chase a skirt". Dave 3 locked up the front in some gravel enerting a servo & low sided the "newness" clean off it.

Didn't get the skirt ..... But the gravel rash & I still see each other occasssional when things go quiet before they go "Crunch, screech, (insert metal scraping sound here) engine wail, followed by lots of swearing if I'm up to it.

First ride I ever had was a GPZ1000RX, rough as guts with a 900 motor in it. Didn't have brake pads in the front- pistons straight on the discs. My mate who owned it was BODGY. I'm not sure I believe him on the brake story.
Anywho it started me on bikes, Kwakas and all things noisy! :)
