here hereI-K wrote:See Ponti's response above. They can all be as bad as each other. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the motorcycle distributors were as incestuous as every other industry... ie. there's a finite pool of about a dozen warranty dept managers, and the importers for all the major motorcycle manufacturers just keep swapping them amongst themselves, so the guy who tried to knock back my claim for cracked mounting screw holes on the seat cowl on my R1 back in 2001 while he was at Yamaha is actually the same guy who's now trying to fuck Tanya over...Whitey wrote:A 10R has been on my shopping list for a while, so I registered here to stay abreast of all things green. I gotta say that I'm a little concerned about the number of threads I've seen regarding seemingly poor customer service from Kawasaki Australia. In particular, their reluctance to honour warranty claims.
...yet another reason why I'm a compulsive buyer of random spares and why my bikes never see the inside of a workshop. The entire industry is too full off fuckwits to bother with.
The sooner we can buy bikes in the crate direct from Kawasaki Japan the better. Let the useless middlemen starve.
guarentee'd anything owned by team moto is full of fuckwits!... there is the odd shop that is pretty good although they are few and far between!

Not a good situation really, it can be really frustrating and sometimes it takes a kick in the ass to get things going on their behalf!
My local Kawasaki dealer (Canberra Motorcycle centre) seems to be pretty decent (other ACT guys may disagree!) and look after me. I had some trouble with my VTR after a major service once (I do all the minor myself) and it took them 2 days worth of labour to fix it and didn't charge a thing to me, which i thought it was fair.
So not all shops are bad but I am sure the good ones are far and few between!
Puzzling though - it sounds like you have a personal relationship with them if they let you help put your pipes on the bike, you would think this would count for something??

Bassmaniac I used to work there, and i got in trouble for that too.
But the bike broke down after I left.
I'm not accusing the shop of lying, I think the mechanic genuinely believes that is why the bike stopped, but it's just a guess nothing else, and the guess is based on him assuming I did something I didn't. I'm not annoyed at them, i'm annoyed at Kawasaki for taking their guess as a fact even though I've explained why it is highly unlikely.
The bike runs, but I really don't feel comfortable using it as I don't believe the real reason it stopped has come to light, and I was silly enough to believe Kawasaki Au would be interested in trying to help me find out why.

Yeah, not a nice thing hopping out on your bike not knowing if it will or wont start or run while you are out!
And you got introuble for doing something during your lunch? Man, thats bad!
It would be interesting to find out what it is for future reference, I'm scared to wash my bike now!
Not that I have washed it yet, I've only had it for a week! Tomorrow maybe!
BTW - nice looking bike you have!

spent a bit of time in there during our summer trip.. I thought the place and people were great! wish it was my local kwaka shop (that might change once I had to deal with the workshop though, who knows)bassmaniac69 wrote: My local Kawasaki dealer (Canberra Motorcycle centre) seems to be pretty decent (other ACT guys may disagree!) and look after me.

Tan that's a bad deal you've copped from these guys. If you don't get much joy from the second mechanic and don't want to take the matter much further, put all the stock bits back on and run it until it fails again. When it stops, take it to a different dealer, pay the extra for the longer tow, and see what the second inspection says. I know it's not an ideal solution, but its live with it or sell it and buy a different kwaka.
Oh and if you have a workshop manual handy, print out the pages that show the rocker cover/s and another with the vales and maybe send them to Kwaka Oz and ask the question "doesn't the Rocker Cover stop water getting into the top of the motor."
If they want to treat you like an idiot, give them some of their own medicine.
Good luck

Poyda i think what they are talking about is filling up the ram air with water which then goes into the intakes and down past the valves and it would take a hell of a lot of water to do so.
From what you are telling us here tanya it actually sounds a bit like a timing chain tensioner to me but hey i wasn't there at the time.
Warranty sucks and if the service manager has half a clue that he can put one over he will have a go, they wanted 400 bucks to look at my clutch and i can have the thing in and out in under half a hour with basic tools....how do you get 400 bucks out of that and the bike was still under warranty.
some of these parts are reallly built to a price I tell ya and they dont bother to reengineer some things either so if it worked back on the 750 tripple they could be still trying to pass it on current bikes well the clutch pin arrangement anyway.

If I rode my bike at the speed of light, what would happen when I switched on its headlights?

So what happens if you ride in a heavy downpour ? wouldn't water get in the ram air ?Barrabob wrote:Poyda i think what they are talking about is filling up the ram air with water which then goes into the intakes and down past the valves and it would take a hell of a lot of water to do so.

You would have to have water running back out of it for it to get that bad, and it would hydraulic lock once you cranked it. I know on my 96 zx9r that the ram air had BIG water collection chambers and drain tubes (although hard to get to without removing the fairing) so that if you did put a litre or 2 down each one most of it would get caught, and what didnt get caught in the ram air tubes, would be caught in the air box, and again released through drain tubes. Now to the interesting bit, Tanya obviously washes her bike with the throttle held open to allow water into the cylinders to clean them aswell (talk about being a clean freak, might suggest this to a few suzuki owners), and obviously when the plugs are wet, they won't fire. If you're unlucky, and there is a heap of water in the cylinder (ie blown headgasket) then it hydraulic locks, or atleast struggles to crank over.Woody69 wrote:So what happens if you ride in a heavy downpour ? wouldn't water get in the ram air ?Barrabob wrote:Poyda i think what they are talking about is filling up the ram air with water which then goes into the intakes and down past the valves and it would take a hell of a lot of water to do so.

Basically, Pro(stitute) Kwaka are doing a number on you Tanya. I'll send you up a 109degree pants protractor, when my new boss started he gave them out to all the staff with a note that read "This will assist you in finding the most comfortable angle to cop it, and remember, smile and relax." and its pretty spot on.
Tanya contact someone like the MVRIC (Motor Vehicle Repair Industry Council) in QLD, it should be a government organisation. This is the NSW site, http://www.mvria.nsw.gov.au/index.html if you cant find the QLD people then they should be able to tell you who to contact. These guys deal with disputes like this, and they are fairly quick about it too. It usually involves them contacting the dealer, having a chat, and if need be a meeting is arranged between both parties.
I hate when nice people get shafted by dodgey importers. Is Kwaka Oz actually connected to Kwaka Japan, or are they just an importer like the companies that bring in some of the European cars.
