I agree
I spend a reasonable amount on all my oils I use on cars and bikes
I never have used Supermarkets oils...cept once (see above post)
the SS runs on Mobil1 'Gold' at $69 for 5 litres (thats TRADE)
I have just done a gearbox flush on it too...4.5 litres of Castrol HiPo Transmax Z fluid
..that 5 litre container was $55 ..Trade again!
the missus's Holden V8 has always run on Penrite oils ($35 for 5 litres)
and when I did the 120000 service last weekend, the diff and auto got new castrol fluids...more $...
It also got a brake fluid flush and bleed..$15 for 2 litres and new coolant $35 for 2.5 litres (phew)
atm
I use Castrol or Motul on the bike, since Penrite stopped making an
oil for large capacity (over 600cc) Jap 4 strokes
the cost? $32 for 4 litres....
and
bloody hell...just added that lot up ...

at least the oil filters were cheap..$4.55
hmmm.....why are the bike ones so dear???
as I said, use good oil....
cheers
GOTTA LUV the 12R!!
re: The Good Oil
don't want to stir up the hornets nest but when I had the 36000 service done on my ZX9R they put Motul 5100 in I think, well wasnt happy. The gearbox just didnt feel the same, all notchy and sometimes for some reason would lock me out of third.
I brought this to the attention of the Guys who did the service and they have said that sometimes they get complaints ref the Motul and recommend going to the Shell VSX4( Think is a mineral based oil ), which I beleive was in my gearbox before the service as apparently as I was told Gold Coast Yamaha used to use it as their standard oil ( it is where the bike was last service before I bought it) before they started using Motul products.
Don't have to worry now as have the new 6R and she is a treat.

re: The Good Oil
i ran shell helix with no friction modifiers in a gsx 4 2yrs & never had a problem, everything else that could go wrong with the fuker did, but yeah, never had a problem with the car oil. yet at the moment i'm runnin' shell advance ultra 4....$60 for 4lts
last time i got it

re: The Good Oil
If you have something like a guzzi you can run car oil in the engine and gearbox oil in the gearbox althogh i think they specify something like agip in the manual-ever tried buying shell oil from the depot something like 88dollars for a 20 litre drum of the semi synthetic.
re: The Good Oil
I have been using Shell SX4 (semi-synth) for the last few years and alsways found it to give very smooth gearbox/clutch operation. Won't make myself use anything else now, especially as I can buy it direct rom the local Shell depot in a 20 litre drum for $90. That works out to only $15 per oil change
A 4litre normally costs about $35
no contest in my mind - bulk purchasing is the way to go!
For the record - Shell VSX4 is a full synthetic and Shell Advance Ultra 4 is the oil that Shell sponsored teams use in their racebikes

I tried that Shell stuff in mine....once
all I got was box of false neutrals and hard shifting
so I went back to Penrite..beayudifulll!
and that just shows ya
you may have to experiment to see what oils work best...I have
