Actually funnily enough it seems to be going ok ATM, and I didn't even check the water yet! Just have to make sure I get it to start on the first kick and all is good.
Bob I have one of those chargers for the racebike, I have been thinking of making a socket in the roadbike to fit it as well. Will put it on my to-do list....
Oh and I wouldn't dare sacrifice the racebike battery to the roadbike unless it was the last thing I could do. Ya gotta have priorities.....

Mike- my blade killed 3 batteries too..again because of voltage reg...and if they are quoting u $270 tell em to bugger off...
Greeny got one for $120 ish , but it failed and stuffed his battery...i reckon mine was abt $180ish.... Honda's are known for it...
its an easy check tho if u have a multi-meter....
put the MM terminals on the battery terminals, and check what voltage is going into the battery at idle...prob be abt 12 ish.... then rev the bike to say....7000rpm...now this is where the voltage reg should make sure ur only getting abt 14.1 ish volts thru the battery...if its getting 15V + (mine was getting 17.4 or sumthin) then ur reg is rooted!!

(mine is connected to the indicator relay, which goes on and off with the ignition.) $20 or so gets you the fan, and peace of mind knowing the bugger will get you home. My CB has had the fan installed for two years with no probs now.
You should be able to pick up a cheap pc case fan or heatsink fan for about $12 from any chinese computer store or any of the supermarket style PC stores. They also stock tubes of the silver thermal goo. So long as the area where the regulator is relatively dry (ie no direct water path to it) it should be fine. PC case fans are 12v and run a trivial ampage so it wont stress your electrics. If you need a waterproof one, a radiator fan of a wreck would do it. Though you may need to rig a temp sensor for it.

takes 2 mins...
Mine was going the other way - it was over compensating and not allowing the battery to charge. Got a finned version for $167, took half hour to fit and now the lights brighten when the bike is revved - so far so good.
