I have one of those fogcity things that change shades when you are in direct sun light. It doesn't get as dark as a tint but it takes all the glare out and reverts back to clear when it is dark. This is great for riding through mountains with lots of trees and shade across the road as it constantly adjusts. It also does not fog up ever.

i actually went into the local police station abouta month ago and asked the question of visors and their legality as i was buying a new lid and wanted to know if it was ok.


They called the highway patrol commander and he said no probs, not illegal.

Fog City for T and I also, so far I cannot fault it. Day or night it's a ripper.

I have the standard clear visor...and a dark smoke one for my AGV bucket
BOTH have FogCity on ' em

I tended to wear the dark one all the time..but having been out at night lately
the dark visor is too bloody dangerous..can't see jack shit
so
i have swapped back to the Clear and wear dark sunnies under it
during the day ...cool which are fine with the visor up too

I have a pair of 'yellow' sunnies in the bag for low light
so i have a choice at night...no specs or yellow
..works well

Yep. As far as I know, it's illegal to wear tinted visors at night in Vic, but not here in SA or NSW. Not sure about the other states. The wearing of helmets and tinted visors is not covered under the Australian Road Rules, but under various road traffic laws individual to each state.

Which is sorta like saying its not illegal to ride with no helmet in those states. Unless you HAD to (the visor not the helmet) why would you ?
Do your wear your sun glasses at night ? (and I dont mean yellow ones)
I will wear a tinted visor if i get caught out but its not cool and it is dangerous. I want all the peripheral vision I can and I think it is in THIS area that tints are dangerous. Sure if you are young and your night vision is good, blah blah but if someone can tell me the ADVANTAGE of wearing a tinted visor at night I will say Hondas are g.. are goo... are g, g, g,...

not many advantages at night that I can think of.......if you get caught out late and have no choice, then just ride with the visor up and eat bug splat !!

seriously, swapping visors is easy at home, but who carries a spare clear around ? They are bulky uncomfortable etc etc.

The *simple* solution is a set of safety glasses ( the plastic ones), kept under your seat. These are great at night with the visor up. They are also good in the rain, in overcast conditions if you are caught with your tinted visor........hit the outside of the glasses with some Rain-X, and heh-presto, instant clear vision - sure the inside of your lid will get a bit damp, but its better than hospital food

I have a chrome KBC VR1 with chrome visor which is sh*t to see out of at night and a "assasin" KBC VR2 with blue visor which is clear as night or day,so guess it all depends on type of visor..

Its illegal to do all sorts of sh3t in Vic but unless it involves 1. speeding, 2. alchohol or 3. hooning then you just ain't gunna experience a problem with it.

The above may be read as 1. revenue, 2. smack me in the face obvious control issue and 3. politically popular

Road safety is no longer a strategy and now covers only political self interest and revenue raising. If it were otherwise you would see coppers on the road and get your fines with a lecture instead of a marketing brochure with the computer generated bill.

Every road outing I see people on the phone, driving through lights, failing to stop/giveway, driving unroadworthy vehicles, failing to indicate, tailgating, failing to give way, not keeping left, etc etc etc

If I got pinged for a sh4ty dark visor then it would be time to start working out and repeating "are you talking to me" into the mirror.

i know ya gonna hate me for this but tinted black visors shouldnt be allowed at night.....went out tonight to see what it was like and it was dangerous..........even though you may see a cart with its lights you will not see a dog crossing road or anything without lights.

would you let someone with tunnel vision or very poor eyesight drive a car around near your family street?

it is a pain to swap visors....mate in town on trips puts his around his hips waste line.


i only wanted mine dark purely to stop sun beaming down on me when coming home late in the arvo.

I swap them when it gets dark, I can store the visors in the "back" pocket in the dririder jacket. Could even slot it behind the screen depending on the bike.

I have a Hyper Optiks visor insert
Best money i've spent ........ other than the 10
it sticks inside the clear visor and goes light and dark with the sun
had it for 12 months now ...... money well spent

It maybe illegal to ride with a tinted visor at night here in vic,but i have never known anyone to be booked for it.I guess if you had an accident though,your insurance company might use it as an excuse not to pay.
I find riding with a tinted visor at night not too bad,but irriduim ones are just about impossible.If i know im gunna be riding at night i change helmets(i have 4 to choose from)but if i get caught out,too bad.
