Would you care to cite some examples of HECS-eligible university courses which cost $30K per year?
Yeah, I too would like to know what courses cost $30k per yr
From my understanding, if you are doing an engineering course, it's about $700 per unit, 4 units per sem = $2800 per sem, 2 sem per year = $5600 per yr.
A typical 4 yrs course will be about $22,400.
Is that correct? or did I miss out something?
Now how much is that brand new ZX-14 ?

Mine cost $16000,
If that's all the whole med/law degree cost you, you must've done it a while ago now...
wait till you see what overseas students get charged.
Yes. Because they'll be pissing off home as soon as they complete their studies (so the rationale goes), they're not eligible for HECS, so their course fees cover the full cost of training them, plus a little extra to make it all worth the university in question's while.
well i did Bach in Elec Eng / Diploma in Business Admin and i'm being hit for about $30,000+ for 5 years of drinking piss and being broke.
Its pretty simple.
HECS (or HELP as it is known now) can be reduced by 25% if its paid yearly upfront. Otherwise, its a percentage taken out of ur salary if u earn more than a certain figure (i think its about 28,000). Plus i also tried to get out of paying HECS by not declaring it on my employee tax thingy and i got done on my tax return.

Yeah a 'little' extra....I''m sure it's a 'little' when it's 3 times more.

10+ years later I still havent declared it on my tax returns & yet to start paying. They better hurry because its not that long till I'm retiring
well i guess thats another point. If u dont declare it on ur tax return then they wont know unless u get audited.

well, have you got her a pump-action, so she can unload a couple of rounds into the oldies, and claim the inheritance to pay off the debt ??
what a crock, she should turn a few tricks to pay off the debt, that would piss the parents off...

No need to go that far... she should just turn the shed in the back of the olds' place into a hydroponic setup... earns a lot more money, brings joy to a whole lot more people, nowhere near as self-denigrating.

Yes, because it's not like doctors, research scientists, engineers and computer programmers don't put anything back into society over the course of their working lives.

Yes, because you can have such a swell time living on the sub-$200 per week that away-from-home Austudy pays these days.

Actually I-K for Austudy (25 YO+) its actually $387 per fortnight, if you're under 25 and a Fulltime student and not considered independant its about $176 per fortnight............ I work there and even I know thats absurd.
