Only done 1 trip in an ambo, thank fcuk for that.....

Have always had ambulance cover (NIB), I can't recommend it enough, in fact I think it should be compulsory for all scooter trash. Its pretty cheap for the cover you get. If you do *any* track work at all, or commute daily, then you are insane if you don't have it.

...an update, if anyone apart from me is interested .

The guy made it Geelong Hospital and as of this evening is still in the ICU. The surgeons have patched him up, and repaired the internal damage. Alas he's still out so they don't know if there's any lasting physical/mental damage. However, the hospital staff said the ambos and paramedics saved his life, so if anyone is in doubt those guys and girls are heroes, there's your proof .

For someone who was defibrillated twice, and they had extreme trouble getting a line into (and was spouting blood from the mouth) I have to say he sounds like he's doing pretty well (all things considered).

I didn't do a great deal, I arrived at the scene of some stuff a bit late to do much except offer moral support. I stopped dozens of times, but it was either someone fixing a puncture, giving up for the day, talking on the mobile, or waiting for a straggler. I did loops from Geelong - Little River/Lara/Werribee, depending on what the Little River guys were doing. It was a pretty good day, though I did get sick of riding up that damn freeway, especially in the rain.

I had a hoot talking to some of the riders (and the girls in the Red Cross tent), and had quite a few offers to swap machines . Looking at some the gear the guys and girls were riding it nearly would have been worth my while, except there's no way I was doing those loops on a pushie .

Yes join the ambos even if you don't have private health insurance!

Our little girl was born 10 weeks prem, by the time she was 5 weeks old she had been airlifted and in an ambulance twice.

I owe them and Monash the biggest appaluse and thanks known to man.

my missus doesnt have private health insurance (yet), and im planning on getting her on mine sometime soon.

She had a trip to hospital earlier this year, and she took a ambulance just to make sure she was quickly admitted and to avoid all the crap we went through when we tried getting her looked at less than 24 hours earlier. (basically treating her as if shes faking it as there werent any reall obvious symptoms such as bones sticking out or limbs missing)

9 km, $160, and that's with no disco lights or sideways around corners (i could follow in my corolla without it breakin a sweat).

just watch out if your from one state in another. NSW and QLD have given up on covering the cost of residents of other states for ambo bills as it was just too much, now its just passed onto the poor bastage that got hurt.

well this is what i will be hopefully getting into in a year or two after i have had some nursing experience to validate my registration to cut my training for ambos in half..

then its back off to school and then a new exciting job. i cant wait

In Qld we have the community cover scheme, which means that each and every resident of Qld is entitled to an Ambulance, at any time. I work for Qld Ambulance in communications. Every 6 months we are seeing an 8-10% rise in requests for service, but certainly no increase in available resources! 5pm to 8pm is arsenic hour, where everybody wants a bloody ambulance for a lac to a finger, a sore foot from a fall two weeks ago, a bit of a headache etc. From a clinical POV, people who genuinely require ambulance care are being risked because others out there want an ambulance because they feel they are entitled to it, as they pay their electricity bill. Bring back subscription fees, I say!
