Benny wrote:problem is in Sydney traffic if you leave any sort of decent gap between you an the car infront, someone WILL pull into that gap. And you would find yourself being continually pulled out on without indicators. Drivers in sydney are like rugby players, they see a gap an hit it at full speed and hope they dont collect the other players on teh road.
I hate sydney for this reason, thats why im moving to cairns in 2 months

.. an cheers for the well wishes.
I will get a phonecall with my repair quote any minute now.. in a couple of hours.
It's a shit event to happen Benny, hope everything mends quickly, however the lads are correct. The most important thing you can do for yourself on the road is give yourself space ie at least 3 seconds in front. If someone pulls into your space drop back another 3 seconds. If 10 cars do that to you, you've lost 30 seconds, its a shitload better than losing your bike or your life.
Good luck with it.

This is a GREAT reason why people should practise stunts!
Im above average at stoppies (Im not saying im good... but most people out there dont know how to do them at all) and this allows me to handle the bike if the situation you described ever comes up....
I say go out and do some stoppies and wheelies.... (but not on a public road.... oh and borrow someone elses bike too).

Thats right, do stoppies in your driveway, open your garage if possible to give you a few more meters. Wheelies, easy, do them on the footpath, that way you're not on the road and can't be done for reckless driving.

Regardless, thats still a very high excess..
Next renewal start looking around bro.
http://www.nrma.com.au/pub/nrma/estimate/motor.shtml
NRMA = You would have $800 excess (which is standard these daysfor <25yo
with 2yrs experience)
so unless you are getting your premium considerably less than everyone
to compensate for such a high excess, I'd be pissing em off at the next Renewal.
$800 is bad enough, having a $1000+ excess borders on the ridiculous.
Fuck that shit..

hmm stoppie classes hey..... i could do up a post..
1.grab handful of front brakes
2. dont fall off.
3repeat steps 1-3
actually theres a few nice tips, greeny is the man to speak to... ne1 notice that video we shot, with greeny doin 1 handed stoppies...with his mrs on the back???

never done one, but logic suggests keeping it dead straight and start practicing, say from 10k/hr,a nd gradually increasing the squeeze until the back starts lifting. Same deal goes for increasing speed, get a feel for how much is needed.
I agree on one thing, if you know how to do them, you'll be less likely to frig 'em up in an emergency stop.
