Actually Fitzy. I've got a pair of knee guards for Draggins that I bought when I bought mine. I never use them though because I can't get the bastards in and I don't wear Draggins much. They're brand new, never been used. You can have them for half whatever they charge for them in the shop if your interested.

This is the knee of my pants after my recent off. They are Tiger Angel elements pants which are about as abrasion resistant you can get in a textile.
Without the knee pads I'd be a cripple. Wear knee pads!

Yup I had knee pads and kevlar jeans on when I low sided at about 60 on brand new tyres. Kevlar didn't last long, and the hard plastic mx knee pads were worn down about 2mm in a patch the size of a 20cent coin.

Yup. Glen came to rescue the GS and I remember he later wrote on here that if I didn't have the knee pads on I would have been in hospital with a detached kneecap

Even though crashes can happen to any of us at anytime, and all the gear is always a good idea.

I rekon those first few months/years you ride a bike are especially important for gear because there's a certain number of newbie mistakes to be made which you wont make once you have some more experience in the saddle, and wisdom in the scone. Every time I ride past a learner with a $500 jacket and no $50 gloves I feel like whacking them in the back of the head for being a doofus  On the off chance I get to talk to said doofus, I always boost my old carnt status by giving them the "who's going wipe your ass when you have both your hands wrapped up" line
